Introduction

The Toysmith 3-D Mirascope is an optical illusion device designed to create a stunning 3D holographic projection of small objects. Safety Information

Please read all safety information before using the Mirascope.

  • Choking Hazard: This product contains small parts and is not suitable for children under 3 years of age. Adult supervision is recommended for all users, especially those under 8 years.
  • Mirror Care: The mirrored surfaces are delicate. Avoid touching them directly with fingers to prevent smudges and scratches. Clean only with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Sunlight Exposure: Do not leave the Mirascope in direct sunlight for extended periods, especially with an object inside. The parabolic mirrors can concentrate sunlight and potentially cause a fire hazard. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light when not in use.

What's Included

Your Toysmith 3-D Mirascope package should contain the following components:

  • One (1) 3-D Mirascope (consisting of two parabolic mirror halves)
  • One (1) Plastic Frog (for display)
  • Instruction Sheet (this manual)

Setup

The Toysmith 3-D Mirascope comes pre-assembled in two halves. To set it up for use:

  1. Carefully separate the two parabolic mirror halves. They are designed to fit snugly together.
  2. Place the object you wish to project (such as the included plastic frog, a coin, or a small toy) at the very bottom center of the lower parabolic mirror. Ensure the object is stable and not touching the sides.
  3. Carefully place the top parabolic mirror half back onto the bottom half, aligning the edges. The top mirror has a circular opening in its center.
  4. Ensure the two halves are securely seated together.

Operating Instructions

Once assembled with an object inside, your Mirascope is ready to create illusions:

  1. Position the Mirascope on a flat, stable surface at eye level or slightly below.
  2. Look down into the circular opening at the top of the Mirascope. You will see a realistic 3D image of the object you placed inside, appearing to float above the opening.
  3. Experiment with different viewing angles. The illusion is most effective when viewed from a certain range of angles. If you look too steeply or too shallowly, the illusion may break or you may see the actual object inside.
  4. Try to touch the projected image. Your fingers will appear to pass right through it, demonstrating the optical illusion.
  5. To change the object, simply lift the top mirror half, replace the object at the bottom, and re-seat the top half.

Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and clarity of your Mirascope's illusions:

  • Cleaning: The mirrored surfaces are highly reflective and can be easily scratched. To clean, gently wipe with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, paper towels, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the mirror coating.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the Mirascope in its original packaging or a protective container to prevent dust accumulation and scratches. Keep it away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Handling: Always handle the Mirascope by its outer plastic casing, avoiding direct contact with the mirrored interior surfaces.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Image is blurry or distorted.Smudges or scratches on mirrors; object not centered; improper viewing angle.Gently clean mirrors with a soft, lint-free cloth. Ensure object is centered. Adjust viewing angle until image is clear.
Cannot see the 3D image.Incorrect viewing angle; object too large or too small; insufficient lighting.Adjust your eye level relative to the Mirascope. Ensure the object fits entirely within the bottom mirror. Use in a well-lit area, but avoid direct harsh light.
Image appears to be inside the Mirascope, not floating above.Viewing angle is too steep.Lower your eye level or move further back from the Mirascope to find the optimal viewing angle.
