4. Setup

4.1 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.

4.3 Initial Settings

5. Operating the Camera

5.1 Turning On/Off

Press the POWER button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.

5.2 Basic Photography

  1. Select a Shooting Mode: Use the mode dial or menu to select a shooting mode (e.g., Auto, Scene modes like Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait).
  2. Frame Your Shot: Use the 2.5-inch LCD monitor to compose your image.
  3. Zoom: Use the zoom control to adjust the optical zoom (3x) and digital zoom (up to 4x).
  4. Focus: Half-press the shutter button to activate autofocus. The camera features Face-Priority AF in Portrait Scene mode, which automatically detects and focuses on faces.
  5. Take a Picture: Fully press the shutter button to capture the image.

5.3 Advanced Features

  • Electronic VR Image Stabilization: This feature helps reduce blur caused by camera shake, especially in lower light conditions. It is automatically active in many shooting modes.
  • ISO 1000 Capability: For shooting in very low light, the ISO sensitivity can be manually set up to 1000.
  • D-Lighting: In playback mode, D-Lighting can be applied to underexposed images to brighten dark areas without affecting properly exposed parts.
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix: This feature automatically detects and corrects red-eye in captured images.
  • Color Options: Choose from various color modes such as standard, vivid color, black and white, sepia, and cyanotype.
  • Best Shot Selector (BSS): In certain modes, the camera can take a series of photos and automatically select the sharpest one.

5.4 Recording Movies

The Coolpix S200 can record QuickTime movies with sound at 30 frames per second. Select the movie mode and press the shutter button to start and stop recording.

5.5 Viewing Images and Videos

Press the PLAYBACK button to enter playback mode. Use the multi-selector to scroll through your photos and videos. You can zoom in on photos or play videos directly on the 2.5-inch LCD.

5.6 Transferring Images

  • To a Computer: Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The camera will appear as a removable disk, allowing you to copy files.
  • To a Printer: The camera supports PictBridge, allowing direct printing to compatible printers via USB without a computer.
