6. Maintenance
Your Lutron Nova T dimmer is designed for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
Cleaning:
- Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before cleaning.
- Clean the dimmer and wall plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
- Ensure the dimmer is completely dry before restoring power.
General Care:
- Do not paint the dimmer or wall plate.
- Ensure the dimmer is not overloaded beyond its 600W capacity. Overloading can cause premature failure and is a fire hazard.
7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your dimmer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lights do not turn ON. | Power is off at the breaker; loose wiring; bulb burned out. | Check circuit breaker; verify wiring connections; replace bulb. |
| Lights do not dim or flicker. | Incorrect bulb type (not incandescent/halogen); dimmer overloaded; loose wiring. | Ensure bulbs are incandescent/halogen; check total wattage does not exceed 600W; verify wiring. |
| Dimmer is warm to the touch. | Normal operation for dimmers. | This is normal. If it is excessively hot or smells of burning, turn off power immediately and consult an electrician. |
| Dimmer makes a buzzing sound. | Some buzzing is normal with certain incandescent bulbs; dimmer overloaded. | Try different brand of incandescent bulbs; ensure total wattage does not exceed 600W. |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, turn off power at the circuit breaker and contact a qualified electrician or Lutron customer support.
