Setup

  1. Place the gameboard on a flat surface.
  2. Separate the Title Deed cards by property group (color).
  3. Shuffle the Chance cards and place them face down on the designated "Chance" space on the board.
  4. Shuffle the Community Chest cards and place them face down on the designated "Community Chest" space on the board.
  5. Each player chooses one of the 6 collectible Spider-Man themed tokens to represent them during the game.
  6. One player is designated as the Banker. The Banker is responsible for all money, Title Deeds, Apartments, and Skyscrapers not yet owned by players. The Banker also collects taxes and fines and pays salaries and bonuses. The Banker may play the game but must keep their personal money separate from the Bank's.
  7. The Banker distributes starting money to each player. Refer to the specific money distribution rules for Monopoly, typically:
    • Two $500 bills
    • Two $100 bills
    • Two $50 bills
    • Six $20 bills
    • Five $10 bills
    • Five $5 bills
    • Five $1 bills
  8. Place the Apartments and Skyscrapers near the board, ready for purchase.
  9. Each player rolls both dice. The player with the highest total roll goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.

Operating (Gameplay)

Objective

The goal of Monopoly: Spider-Man is to be the last player remaining with money and properties, driving all other players into bankruptcy.

Basic Turn Sequence

  1. Roll the Dice: Roll both dice and move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces indicated.
  2. Action on Space: The action you take depends on the space your token lands on:
    • Unowned Property: You may buy the property from the Bank for the price printed on that space. If you choose not to buy it, the Banker immediately offers it for auction to the highest bidder.
    • Owned Property: If another player owns the property, you must pay them rent according to the Title Deed card.
    • Chance or Community Chest: Draw the top card from the respective pile and follow its instructions.
    • Go to Jail: Move your token directly to the "In Jail" space. You do not collect $200 for passing GO.
    • Just Visiting: No action required.
    • Free Parking: No action required.
    • Income Tax/Luxury Tax: Pay the specified amount to the Bank.
    • GO: When you pass or land on GO, collect $200 from the Bank.
  3. Doubles: If you roll doubles, take your turn as usual, then roll the dice again for another turn. If you roll doubles three times in a row, you must immediately go to Jail.
  4. End of Turn: Once you have completed your action, the turn passes to the player on your left.

Building Apartments and Skyscrapers

  • You can only build when it is your turn.
  • You must own all properties in a color group to build on any of them.
  • You must build evenly: you cannot build a second Apartment on any property in a group until one Apartment has been built on each property in that group.
  • Once you have four Apartments on all properties in a color group, you can upgrade to a Skyscraper by paying the Skyscraper cost and returning the four Apartments to the Bank.
  • There is a limited number of Apartments (32) and Skyscrapers (12). If the Bank runs out, no more can be built until some are returned.

Selling Properties and Mortgaging

  • You can sell undeveloped properties to other players at any agreed-upon price.
  • To mortgage a property, all Apartments and Skyscrapers on that property and its color group must first be sold back to the Bank at half their cost.
  • A mortgaged property cannot collect rent. To unmortgage, pay the mortgage value plus 10% interest to the Bank.

Bankruptcy

If you owe more money than you can pay, even by selling all your buildings and mortgaging all your properties, you are bankrupt and out of the game. All your assets are turned over to the player you owe money to, or to the Bank if you owe the Bank.

Spider-Man's Optional Rule (Faster Game)

The game includes an optional rule for a faster game, as mentioned in the product description. While specific details of this rule are typically found on a separate instruction sheet within the game box, generally, faster Monopoly variants might include:

  • Ending the game after a set number of rounds or when a certain number of players go bankrupt.
  • Starting with more money or fewer properties to buy.
  • Modified rent rules or building costs.

Refer to the dedicated "Spider-Man's Optional Rule" section in the physical instruction booklet for precise details on this accelerated gameplay variant.

Maintenance

  • Storage: Store all game components neatly in the original box to prevent loss or damage. Keep the box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Cleaning: The game board and cards can be gently wiped with a dry, soft cloth if needed. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Handling: Handle game pieces and cards with care to prolong their lifespan. Avoid bending cards or forcing pieces.
  • Missing Pieces: In case of missing components, refer to the manufacturer's support information for possible replacements.
