1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 digital camera. 3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the supplied NP-BG1 Lithium-ion battery. Insert the battery into the supplied battery charger and connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will light up during charging and turn off when charging is complete. A full charge typically takes approximately 2-3 hours.

3.2 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover located on the side of the camera (refer to Image 4).
  2. Insert the charged NP-BG1 battery into the battery compartment with the correct orientation, ensuring it clicks into place.
  3. Insert a Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick PRO Duo media card into the memory card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is inserted with the correct side facing up.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

The camera has 31 MB of internal memory, allowing you to capture a limited number of images without a memory card.

3.3 Initial Settings

Upon first power-on, the camera may prompt you to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions using the control buttons to configure these settings.

4. Operating the Camera

4.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button (refer to Image 2) to turn the camera on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

4.2 Taking Still Images

  1. Turn the mode dial (refer to Image 3) to the desired shooting mode (e.g., Auto, Program Auto, Scene Selection).
  2. Frame your shot using the 2.5-inch LCD screen or the optical viewfinder.
  3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus indicator will light up when focus is achieved.
  4. Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

4.3 Using Zoom

Use the zoom lever (W/T, refer to Image 3) to adjust the focal length. Move the lever towards T for telephoto (zoom in) and towards W for wide-angle (zoom out). The camera features 3x optical zoom and 14x Smart Zoom.

4.4 Recording Movies

  1. Turn the mode dial to the movie recording mode (indicated by a film camera icon).
  2. Press the shutter button to start recording.
  3. Press the shutter button again to stop recording.

Movies are recorded in MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode (640 x 480 resolution at 30 fps) with audio.

4.5 Playback and Review

Press the Playback button (indicated by a play icon, refer to Image 3) to enter playback mode. Use the control buttons to navigate through your captured images and videos. Press the MENU button to access playback options, including HD slide show with music and in-camera retouching.

4.6 Connecting to a TV

To view photos and videos on a television, connect the camera using an optional Sony HD connector cable to a compatible HDTV. This allows for high-definition viewing of your media.
