Setup

1. Initial Winding

The SEIKO 5 Automatic SNK805 is a mechanical watch powered by the movement of your arm. It does not require a battery. If the watch has stopped or is running low on power, it needs to be wound. While this model does not support manual winding via the crown, you can initiate power by gently swinging the watch from side to side for approximately 30 seconds to get the movement started. For optimal performance, wear the watch for at least 8 hours a day.

2. Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown out to the second click position.
  2. Rotate the crown to move the hands clockwise until the desired time is set. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set by observing the date change. If setting the time between 9 PM and 4 AM, avoid adjusting the date/day to prevent damage to the movement.
  3. Push the crown back to the normal position.

3. Setting the Date and Day

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click position.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise to set the date.
  3. Rotate the crown counter-clockwise to set the day of the week.
  4. Once the correct date and day are displayed, push the crown back to the normal position.

Operating Your Watch

Automatic Movement

The SEIKO 5 Automatic SNK805 features a 21-jewel automatic movement (Caliber 7S26B). This movement is self-winding, meaning it gains power from the natural motion of your wrist. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop and require re-winding as described in the Setup section.

Water Resistance

This watch is water-resistant to 30 meters (99 feet). This rating means it can withstand splashes or brief immersion in water, such as rain or hand washing. It is not suitable for swimming, showering, or diving. Avoid operating the crown while the watch is wet or submerged to prevent water intrusion.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth regularly. For the canvas strap, a damp cloth with mild soap can be used for spot cleaning, then allowed to air dry completely.

Strap Care

The green canvas strap is durable but may show wear over time. If the strap becomes worn or damaged, it can be replaced with any compatible 18mm watch strap. Ensure replacement straps are securely attached.

Storage

When not wearing your automatic watch, it will eventually stop. To keep it running and accurate, consider using an automatic watch winder, which can be purchased separately. This device simulates wrist movement to keep the mainspring wound.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch Stops Running: This is normal for an automatic watch that has not been worn or moved for its power reserve duration. Gently swing the watch for 30 seconds to restart it, then wear it to fully wind the mainspring.
  • Inaccurate Timekeeping: Ensure the watch is sufficiently wound by wearing it regularly (8+ hours daily) or by manually swinging it. Mechanical watches can have slight variations in accuracy. If significant inaccuracy persists, professional servicing may be required.
