- To attach the combination tool, align it with the suction inlet on the main unit and push firmly until it clicks into place.
- The combination tool can be used as a wide nozzle or with the brush extended for dusting.

- Release the power button to turn off the vacuum.
5.2 Using the Vacuum
- The Dyson DC16 is designed for quick clean-ups of dry debris.
- Use the combination tool for various surfaces. Extend the brush for delicate surfaces or to agitate dust, and retract it for concentrated suction in crevices.
- The typical run time on a full charge is approximately 6-8 minutes, depending on usage.
5.3 Emptying the Dust Bin
- Ensure the vacuum is turned off.
- Hold the vacuum over a waste bin.
- Press the red dust bin release button located on the side of the main unit. The dust bin will open, and debris will fall out.
- Close the dust bin flap firmly until it clicks into place.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the Dust Bin
The dust bin can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Ensure it is completely dry before reattaching to the vacuum.
6.2 Filter Maintenance
Regular filter cleaning is crucial for maintaining optimal suction performance. The Dyson DC16 uses two filters: a pre-motor filter and a post-motor HEPA filter.
- Removing Filters: Twist the clear dust bin counter-clockwise to detach it from the main unit. The pre-motor filter (blue foam) is located inside the dust bin. The post-motor HEPA filter is located at the rear of the main unit, accessible by twisting and pulling.
- Washing Filters: Wash both filters with cold water only. Do not use detergents. Squeeze the pre-motor foam filter to remove excess water. For the HEPA filter, tap it gently to remove loose dust, then rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Drying Filters: Allow both filters to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinserting. Do not use a tumble dryer, microwave, or open flame to dry.
- Reinserting Filters: Ensure filters are completely dry. Reinsert the pre-motor filter into the dust bin, then reattach the dust bin to the main unit. Reinsert the HEPA filter into its compartment and twist to secure.
It is recommended to wash filters at least once a month, or more frequently with heavy use.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Vacuum does not turn on. | Battery is not charged. | Charge the battery fully. Ensure charger is properly connected. |
