1. Product Overview
The Connecticut Electric UBIZ30 is a newly manufactured, single-pole, 30 Amp circuit breaker designed as a direct replacement for Zinsco Q-style circuit breakers in Zinsco load centers. This breaker operates at 120 Volts AC and is suitable for various applications up to 3,600 watts, such as well pumps (up to 200 feet), bathroom heaters, and electric motors (1-1/2 hp to 2 hp). It features a plug-in type design and is ETL Listed to UL Standard 489 for both the US and Canada, ensuring safety and compliance.
It may also be branded as Sylvania (e.g., Sylvania Q30).

2. Safety Information
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Installation and service should only be performed by qualified personnel. Always turn off the main power supply at the service panel before working on electrical circuits.
- Ensure the main power to the electrical panel is completely disconnected before attempting any installation or maintenance.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including insulated gloves and safety glasses.
- Verify that the replacement circuit breaker matches the specifications of the original breaker and the load center.
- Never use refurbished or used circuit breakers. Only install new, tested, and Safety Agency Listed breakers.
- Consult local electrical codes and regulations before starting any electrical project to ensure compliance.
3. Installation (Setup)
This section outlines the general procedure for installing the UBIZ30 circuit breaker. Always refer to the specific instructions for your Zinsco load center and consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about any steps.
- Power Disconnection: Locate the main circuit breaker for your electrical panel and switch it to the OFF position. Confirm that power is off using a voltage tester.
- Panel Access: Carefully open the cover of your Zinsco load center.
- Identify Slot: Determine the appropriate slot for the new 30 Amp single-pole breaker.
- Install Breaker: Align the UBIZ30 breaker with the bus bar connection in the panel. Press firmly until it clicks securely into place. Ensure a proper connection.
- Wire Connection: Connect the circuit wire to the terminal screw on the breaker. Tighten the screw to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Panel Closure: Replace the load center cover, ensuring all wires are properly routed and not pinched.
- Power Restoration: Turn the main circuit breaker back to the ON position.
- Test: Test the circuit to ensure proper operation.

4. Operation
The UBIZ30 circuit breaker functions as a protective device for your electrical circuits. It has two primary states:
- ON Position: When the toggle switch is in the ON position, electrical current flows through the circuit, powering connected devices.
- OFF Position: When the toggle switch is in the OFF position, the electrical current to the circuit is interrupted. This is used for manual disconnection or during maintenance.
- TRIPPED Position: If an overload or short circuit occurs, the breaker will automatically "trip" to an intermediate position (often between ON and OFF) to protect the circuit. To reset a tripped breaker, first move the switch completely to the OFF position, then firmly push it to the ON position.
5. Maintenance
Circuit breakers generally require minimal maintenance. However, periodic inspection is recommended:
- Visual Inspection: Annually inspect the breaker for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
- Dust Removal: If the electrical panel is dusty, carefully clean around the breakers with a dry, non-conductive brush or vacuum. Ensure power is off before cleaning.
- Professional Check: If a breaker frequently trips or shows signs of damage, consult a qualified electrician for inspection and potential replacement.
6. Troubleshooting
If your UBIZ30 circuit breaker is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- Breaker Trips Frequently:
- Overload: The circuit may be drawing too much current. Disconnect some devices from the circuit and try resetting the breaker.
- Short Circuit: A short circuit can cause immediate tripping. Inspect wiring and connected devices for damage.
- Faulty Appliance: An appliance connected to the circuit may be defective.
- Breaker Will Not Reset:
- Ensure the switch is moved fully to the OFF position before attempting to push it to ON.
- If it still won't reset, there may be a persistent fault on the circuit or the breaker itself may be damaged. Do not force it.
- No Power to Circuit:
- Check if the breaker is in the ON position.
- Verify that the main breaker for the panel is ON.
- Inspect for loose wiring connections at the breaker terminal.
For persistent issues, contact a qualified electrician.
