4. Tools Required

The following tools are suggested for a smooth installation:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Wire stripper
  • Soldering supplies (solder, soldering iron)
  • Electrical tape or heat shrink tubing
  • Multimeter (optional, for verifying connections)

5. Installation Instructions

These LED mirror lights are designed for hard-wire installation. If you have additional Kuryakyn front turn signal accent lighting with a plug-and-play harness, the installation may be simplified. This guide focuses on the hard-wire method.

5.1 Preparation

  1. Park your motorcycle on a level surface and ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the motorcycle's battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.
  3. Carefully remove any fairing components or mirror housings necessary to access the mirror assembly and wiring. Refer to your motorcycle's service manual for specific removal procedures.

5.2 Mounting the LED Lights

  1. Clean the surface where the LED mirror lights will be mounted on the mirror housing. Ensure it is free of dirt, grease, and wax.
  2. Peel the backing from the 3M adhesive tape on the back of each LED mirror light.
  3. Carefully position each LED light into the gap between the mirror and the mirror housing. The slim design ensures they do not interfere with the viewable mirror surface. Press firmly to ensure good adhesion.

5.3 Wiring Connections

The Kuryakyn 7513 LED Mirror Lights require hard-wire connection to the motorcycle's existing turn signal wiring. These lights are designed to illuminate with an amber glow.

  1. Route the wiring from each LED mirror light to an accessible location near the motorcycle's turn signal wiring harness. Secure the wires to prevent chafing or interference with moving parts.
  2. Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) wires for the turn signal on your motorcycle. Typically, the positive wire will carry a pulsed voltage when the turn signal is activated, and the negative wire will be a ground. Refer to your motorcycle's wiring diagram for precise identification.
  3. Carefully strip a small section of insulation from the motorcycle's turn signal positive wire and the ground wire.
  4. Strip a small section of insulation from the wires of the Kuryakyn LED mirror light.
  5. Connect the positive wire from the LED mirror light to the motorcycle's turn signal positive wire.
  6. Connect the negative wire from the LED mirror light to the motorcycle's ground wire.
  7. Secure all connections using soldering and then insulate them thoroughly with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing to protect against moisture and vibration.
  8. Repeat the wiring process for the other LED mirror light on the opposite side of the motorcycle.

5.4 Final Steps

  1. Once all wiring is complete and secured, reconnect the negative terminal of the motorcycle's battery.
  2. Test the LED mirror lights by activating the turn signals. Ensure both lights illuminate correctly with an amber glow.
  3. Carefully reassemble any fairing components or mirror housings that were removed. Ensure all fasteners are tightened to factory specifications.

6. Operation

The Kuryakyn 7513 LED Mirror Lights operate in conjunction with your motorcycle's existing turn signal system. When the turn signal is activated, the corresponding LED mirror light will illuminate with an amber glow, providing additional visibility to other road users.

These lights are designed to be a supplementary safety feature, increasing your motorcycle's conspicuity, especially during turns or lane changes.

7. Maintenance

The Kuryakyn 7513 LED Mirror Lights require minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Clean the LED lenses periodically with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the lens material.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the wiring and connections for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure the lights remain securely attached to the mirror housing.
  • Functionality Check: Regularly check that both LED mirror lights are functioning correctly when the turn signals are activated.
