Wiremold NMW2-D Nonmetallic Raceway Outlet Box Instruction Manual

1. Product Overview

The Wiremold NMW2-D Nonmetallic Raceway Outlet Box is designed for extending electrical circuits or communication cabling in small surface nonmetallic raceway systems. This solution allows for the addition of fixtures and outlets without the need to disturb drywall, plaster, or insulation. Its low-profile, two-piece design offers a clean appearance that blends with various decors. The nonmetallic material is easier to cut than traditional metal raceway and can be painted or stained to match your interior.

4. Tools Required

The following tools are recommended for installation:

5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your Wiremold NMW2-D Nonmetallic Raceway Outlet Box:

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the appropriate circuit breaker for the existing outlet you will be working on and turn off the power.
  2. Verify Power is Off: Use a voltage detector to confirm that there is no power to the outlet.
  3. Prepare Starter Box: Using a utility knife, remove the knockouts in the back of the starter box base that match the raceway size you are using. For a clean look, twist the scored knockout inward when removing it.
  4. Remove Existing Components: Carefully remove the original faceplates and pull out the existing electrical device (outlet or switch) from the wall box.
  5. Attach Starter Box Base: Securely attach the starter box base over the existing electrical box using the provided screws.
  6. Measure and Cut Raceway: Measure the required lengths for your raceway runs. Cut the raceway using either a fine-tooth hacksaw or a PVC cutter.
  7. Install Raceway Bases: Position the raceway bases next to the starter box base. Drill through the raceway base and into the wall to install the anchors provided in the accessory pack. For horizontal runs, space anchors approximately 18 inches apart, and install an anchor half an inch from each end.
  8. Secure Raceway Bases: Secure the raceway bases to the wall using the provided screws.
  9. Install Extension Box Base: Install the extension box base where the new power outlet will be located, following the same anchoring and securing steps as for the raceway bases.
  10. Run Power Wires: Carefully run the power wires along each raceway base. Use the provided wire clips to secure the wires inside the base.
  11. Make Electrical Connections: Make all necessary electrical connections for the new outlet. Ensure all wires are properly stripped and connected to the correct terminals (hot, neutral, ground).
  12. Trim Raceway Cover and Install Elbows: Trim the raceway cover as needed to accommodate inside corners, flat elbows, or other fittings. Snap the raceway covers over the bases. Install corner elbows and joint covers if necessary to complete the runs.
  13. Attach Box Covers and Faceplates: Attach the box covers and faceplates to the starter and extension boxes.
  14. Restore Power: Once all components are securely installed and connections are verified, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.
