Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power 9200 Series PD9245CV Converter/Charger User Manual

Model: PD9245CV

Introduction

The Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power 9200 Series PD9245CV is a sophisticated converter/charger designed for recreational vehicles. It provides reliable 12 Volt DC power to your RV's lighting and appliance circuits while intelligently charging and maintaining your battery. This unit incorporates a built-in Charge Wizard, which automatically monitors battery voltage and manages the charging process through various modes to optimize battery life and performance.

Safety Instructions

Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, personal injury, or death.

  • Electrical Hazard: Always disconnect AC shore power and the RV battery before installing or servicing the converter/charger.
  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and service should be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block air vents.
  • Fuse Protection: For continued protection against fire or electrical shock, replace fuses only with the same type and rating (30 AMP).
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: The unit includes reverse battery protection. However, always double-check battery lead connections (+ POS to positive, - NEG to negative) to prevent damage.
  • Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain or excessive moisture.

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your PD9245CV converter/charger.

  1. Preparation: Disconnect all AC power to the RV and disconnect the RV battery. Ensure the installation area is dry and well-ventilated.
  2. Mounting: Mount the converter/charger in a secure location, ensuring proper airflow around the unit's cooling fins. The unit can be mounted inverted if necessary, ensuring DC connectors are accessible.
  3. AC Input Connection: Connect the 15 Amp electrical cord from the converter to a dedicated 105-130 VAC, 50/60 Hz power source. If replacing an existing unit, ensure the circuit can handle 725 Watts.
  4. DC Output Connection: Connect the positive (+ POS) terminal of the converter to the positive terminal of the RV's 12V DC distribution panel or battery. Connect the negative (- NEG) terminal of the converter to the negative terminal of the RV's 12V DC distribution panel or battery. Ensure connections are tight; torque to 30-50 inch-pounds.
  5. Grounding: Connect the chassis ground of the converter to the RV's chassis ground.
  6. Final Check: Double-check all wiring connections for correctness and security.

This image shows the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power 9200 Series PD9245CV converter/charger. The front panel displays the 'INTELI-POWER' branding, 'CHARGE WIZARD' logo, and model number 'PD9245C'. On the right side, the DC output terminals are visible, marked '+ POS' and '- NEG', along with a fuse holder for a 30 AMP fuse. The left side features prominent cooling fins and an 'AIR FLOW' indicator. The unit's input specifications (105-130VAC, 725 Watts) and output specifications (13.6VDC, 45 Amp) are also printed on the label.

Operating Instructions

The Inteli-Power 9200 Series features a built-in Charge Wizard, which automatically manages your battery's charging cycle. It constantly monitors the battery voltage and selects one of four operating modes:

  • Boost Mode (14.4 VDC): Rapidly recharges the battery up to 90% capacity. This mode is typically active when the battery voltage is low.
  • Normal Mode (13.6 VDC): Safely completes the charge and maintains the battery. This is the most common operating mode.
  • Storage Mode (13.2 VDC): Reduces voltage to minimize gassing and water loss when the RV is not in use for extended periods. The Charge Wizard automatically switches to this mode after 30 hours in Normal Mode without significant battery use.
  • Desulfation Mode (14.4 VDC): Automatically activated for 15 minutes every 21 hours in Storage Mode to prevent battery sulfation, which can extend battery life.

The Charge Wizard operates automatically. No user intervention is typically required for optimal battery charging and maintenance.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your converter/charger.

  • Cooling Fan: The variable speed intelligent cooling fan automatically activates as needed. Periodically inspect the fan and air vents for dust or debris accumulation. Clean gently with compressed air if necessary, ensuring the unit is powered off and disconnected.
  • Fuses: The unit is equipped with a 30 AMP fuse for protection. If the converter is not providing power, check this fuse. Always replace with a fuse of the same type and rating.
  • Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections (AC input, DC output, ground) for tightness and corrosion. Tighten as needed.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No 12V DC power from converter. No AC input power; Blown fuse; Loose DC connections; Converter fault.Check AC shore power and RV circuit breakers. Inspect and replace 30 AMP fuse if blown. Tighten DC positive and negative connections. If problem persists, contact qualified service personnel.
Battery not charging or charging slowly.Battery deeply discharged; Loose battery connections; Converter in Storage Mode; Faulty battery.Allow time for Boost Mode to activate. Check and tighten battery connections. Verify battery health.
Converter fan runs constantly or loudly.High ambient temperature; Heavy load on 12V system; Blocked air vents.Ensure adequate ventilation. Reduce 12V load if possible. Clean air vents. This is normal operation under heavy load or high temperature.
Lights dim or flicker when 12V appliances turn on.Low line voltage protection activated; Excessive load; Insufficient wiring.Ensure stable AC input voltage. Reduce simultaneous 12V appliance usage. Consult a technician to check RV wiring.
