Introduction
Welcome to the user manual for your Tasco Telescope and Microscope Combo Kit. This kit provides a versatile set of instruments for exploring both the vastness of the cosmos and the intricate details of the microscopic world. Designed for ease of use, this manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your new equipment, ensuring you get the most out of your scientific explorations.
Kit Components
Your Tasco Combo Kit includes the following main components:
Telescope Assembly

The telescope features a main optical tube, a finderscope for initial targeting, an eyepiece for magnification, and a sturdy tripod for stable viewing.
Microscope and Accessories

The microscope comes with multiple objective lenses for varying magnifications, a stage for holding slides, and a light source. Included accessories may consist of prepared slides, blank slides, cover slips, and various preparation tools.
Please ensure all components listed in your product packaging are present before proceeding with setup.
Setup Instructions
Telescope Assembly
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging. Identify the tripod, main telescope tube, finderscope, and eyepieces.
- Attach Tripod: Extend the tripod legs and secure them firmly. Ensure the tripod head is stable.
- Mount Telescope Tube: Attach the main telescope tube to the tripod mount. Secure it using the provided screws or clamps, ensuring it is stable and level.
- Install Finderscope: Mount the smaller finderscope onto the main telescope tube. This will help in locating objects before viewing them through the main eyepiece.
- Insert Eyepiece: Select an eyepiece and insert it into the focuser of the main telescope tube. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece (highest focal length, e.g., 20mm) for easier initial targeting.

Microscope Preparation
- Power Source: If your microscope has an integrated light source, insert the required batteries (check the battery compartment for type and polarity).
- Place on Stable Surface: Position the microscope on a flat, stable surface.
- Prepare a Slide:
- For prepared slides, simply place them on the stage and secure with the stage clips.
- For custom slides, place a small sample on a blank slide, add a drop of water if necessary, and cover with a cover slip.
- Adjust Light Source: Turn on the light source and adjust its intensity if applicable.

Operating Instructions
Using the Telescope
- Aiming with Finderscope: Look through the finderscope and align it with the object you wish to observe. The finderscope provides a wider field of view, making it easier to locate targets.
- Viewing through Main Eyepiece: Once the object is centered in the finderscope, look through the main telescope eyepiece.
- Focusing: Slowly turn the focusing knob until the image appears sharp and clear.
- Changing Magnification: To increase magnification, replace the current eyepiece with one of a lower focal length (e.g., from 20mm to 10mm). Refocus after changing eyepieces.
- Observing Celestial Objects: For astronomical viewing, choose a dark location away from city lights. Allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness for optimal viewing.
Using the Microscope
- Place Slide: Securely place your prepared slide on the microscope stage using the stage clips.
- Select Objective Lens: Rotate the revolving nosepiece to select the lowest power objective lens (e.g., 4x or 10x). Ensure it clicks into place.
- Lower Objective: Using the coarse adjustment knob, carefully lower the objective lens until it is just above the slide, or until the image comes into rough focus. Do not let the objective lens touch the slide.
- Focus: Look through the eyepiece and slowly turn the coarse adjustment knob to bring the image into focus. Once roughly focused, use the fine adjustment knob for precise focusing.
- Adjust Light: Adjust the light source and diaphragm (if present) to achieve optimal illumination and contrast for your sample.
- Increase Magnification: To increase magnification, rotate the nosepiece to a higher power objective lens (e.g., 40x). Use only the fine adjustment knob for focusing at higher magnifications.
Maintenance
- Cleaning Lenses: Use only a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses to clean the telescope and microscope lenses. Breathe lightly on the lens surface before wiping if necessary. Avoid using abrasive cloths or chemical cleaners.
- Cleaning Body: Wipe the body of the telescope and microscope with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
- Storage: Store both instruments in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep them covered to prevent dust accumulation. If possible, store them in their original packaging or a protective case.
- Battery Removal: If the microscope will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Telescope: Image is blurry or out of focus. | Incorrect focus; atmospheric conditions; dirty lens. | Adjust the focusing knob slowly. Wait for stable atmospheric conditions. Clean the objective lens and eyepiece. |
| Telescope: Cannot find object. | Finderscope not aligned; using too high magnification. | Align the finderscope with the main telescope. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece. |
| Microscope: No light from illuminator. | Batteries dead or incorrectly inserted; bulb faulty. | Check and replace batteries. Ensure correct polarity. Contact support if bulb is faulty. |
| Microscope: Image is dark or unclear. | Insufficient light; dirty lens; incorrect focus; slide upside down. | Adjust light intensity. Clean lenses. Refocus using fine adjustment. Ensure slide is correctly oriented. |
