Setup
- Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash all parts (pan, lid, steaming rack) with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
- Assemble Steaming Rack: If the rim around the base of the steaming rack was removed for packaging, reattach it by applying gentle pressure until it clicks into place.
- Position Rack: Place the steaming rack inside the WMF Vitalis pan.
- Add Water: Pour water into the pan, ensuring the water level is below the steaming rack. The food should not come into direct contact with the water.
Operating Instructions
Steaming Process
- Prepare your ingredients and place them on the steaming rack.
- Ensure the water level in the pan is below the rack.
- Place the glass lid securely on the pan.
- Place the steamer on your chosen hob. The WMF Vitalis Steamer is suitable for all hob types, including induction.
- Heat the water to generate steam. The integrated thermometer on the lid will indicate the temperature inside the steamer.
- Cook until your food reaches the desired doneness. Steaming retains vitamins, minerals, and enhances natural flavors.
- Carefully remove the lid, allowing steam to escape away from your face. Use oven mitts as the lid and pan will be hot.
- Remove the steaming rack with the cooked food.
Using the Integrated Thermometer
The thermometer on the glass lid allows you to monitor the internal temperature without lifting the lid, ensuring consistent cooking. Refer to recipes for ideal steaming temperatures for various foods.
Versatile Use
The WMF Vitalis pan can also be used as a roasting pan without the steaming rack. The pot with the thermometer removed is oven-proof up to 180°C (356°F). The removable rim of the steaming rack allows for steaming larger items or stacking additional inserts (sold separately) for multi-level cooking.

Cleaning and Maintenance
- Dishwasher Safe: The WMF Vitalis pan (with thermometer removed from the lid) and steaming rack are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
- Hand Washing: For best results and to prolong the life of the thermometer, hand wash the lid with warm soapy water.
- Stubborn Stains: For stubborn food residues, soak the pan and rack in warm soapy water before cleaning. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could scratch the stainless steel surface.
- Drying: Dry all components thoroughly after washing to prevent water spots and maintain the polished finish.
Troubleshooting
- Insufficient Steam: Ensure enough water is added to the pan and that the lid is securely placed to trap steam. Verify your hob is set to an appropriate heat level.
- Food Not Cooking Evenly: Ensure food is arranged in a single layer on the steaming rack where possible, allowing steam to circulate freely.
- Water Spots on Stainless Steel: These are common with hard water. They can often be removed with a solution of vinegar and water, followed by thorough rinsing and drying.
- Thermometer Malfunction: Ensure the thermometer is properly seated in the lid. If issues persist, contact customer support.
