Setup and Installation

Required Tools (Not Included):
- Pipe thread tape (included in some kits, verify)
- Philips screwdriver
- Silicone grease (only for 1/2 inch copper pipe slip connection)

Installation Steps:
- Turn off Water Supply: Locate and turn off the main water supply to your bathroom or entire house.
- Remove Old Tub Spout:
- For threaded spouts, unscrew counter-clockwise.
- For slip-on spouts, loosen the set screw underneath and pull off.
- Prepare Pipe Connection:
- For 1/2" Copper Pipe Slip-Fit: Apply silicone grease to the copper pipe. Insert the appropriate adapter (often a slide adapter or an adapter with a compression washer) onto the pipe.
- For Threaded Connections (1/2" or 3/4" Male Threaded, or 1/2" Male Pipe with Threaded End): Apply plumber's tape clockwise to the threads of the stub-out pipe. Ensure the stub-out nipple is at least 4 inches long for proper engagement.

- Install New Tub Spout:
- For Slip-Fit: Slide the tub spout onto the adapter and secure it by tightening the set screw located on the underside of the spout with a Philips screwdriver.
- For Threaded: Carefully thread the new tub spout onto the prepared pipe connection clockwise until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Check for Leaks: Turn the main water supply back on. Run water through the tub spout and check for any leaks around the connection point. If leaks occur, turn off water, re-tighten, or re-apply plumber's tape/silicone grease as needed.
Operating Instructions
The DANCO 88703 Tub Spout features a built-in diverter for switching water flow between the tub and showerhead.
- Tub Fill: To fill the bathtub, ensure the diverter knob on top of the spout is in the downward (closed) position. Water will flow directly from the spout into the tub.
- Shower Mode: To divert water to the showerhead, pull the diverter knob upwards. This will redirect the water flow from the spout to the showerhead.
- Return to Tub Fill: Push the diverter knob back down to resume water flow to the tub spout.

Maintenance
Regular cleaning will help maintain the appearance and function of your tub spout.
- Clean the chrome finish with a soft cloth and mild soap or a non-abrasive bathroom cleaner.
- Avoid using abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
- Periodically check the spout for any signs of wear or damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water leaks from the base of the spout. | Loose connection, insufficient plumber's tape/silicone grease, damaged O-ring. | Turn off water supply. Re-tighten connection. Re-apply plumber's tape to threaded connections or silicone grease to slip-fit connections. Replace O-ring if damaged. |
| Diverter does not fully engage/disengage. | Debris in diverter mechanism, worn diverter seal. | Flush the spout by running water. If issue persists, the diverter mechanism may need inspection or replacement by a professional. |
| Low water flow from spout. | Partial obstruction in pipe or spout, low water pressure. | Check for obstructions in the spout or pipe. Consult a plumber if water pressure is consistently low. |
