4. Installation and Replacement
Follow these steps to replace the trimmer line spool in your BLACK+DECKER bump feed string trimmer:
- Remove Cap: Remove the trimmer head cap by pushing two tabs in and up, then lifting it off. It is not necessary to push both tabs simultaneously. Clear any debris or grass buildup from inside the cap and the reel area.
- Remove Old Reel: Align the notch on the edge of the old spool with the eyelet in the hub and pull the spool straight out. Be careful not to lose the spring located inside the trimmer head. Discard the used spool.
- Prepare New Spool: Remove any tape from the new spool. Unwind approximately 3 inches (76 mm) of line from the new spool and secure it in one of the two notches on the spool. Ensure the spring is properly seated on the hub.
- Insert New Reel: While holding the line in the gap, insert the new reel into the hub and thread the line through the eyelet. If the spool does not easily slip into the hub, gently press and pull the line straight out from the eyelet.
- Install Cap: Push both snap levers on the hub at once until they are securely snapped into place. Pull the trimmer line out by hand until it is taut. The line should extend no further than the trimmer's guard. The cut-off blade will automatically trim any excess line to the correct length during operation.

5. Operation
