Model: DZ1900

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Rowenta Auto-Steam Iron Model DZ1900. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your iron. Please read these instructions carefully before first use and retain them for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using your iron, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons:

  • Read all instructions before using the iron.
  • Use the iron only for its intended use.
  • To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  • Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging from the electrical outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
  • Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
  • Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying, and when not in use.
  • Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron; take it to a qualified service person for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
  • Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  • Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.
  • The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface.
  • When placing the iron on its heel, ensure that the surface on which it is placed is stable.

4. Setup

Before using your iron for the first time, remove any labels or protective covers from the soleplate. It is recommended to test the iron on an old cloth before ironing delicate garments.

4.1 Filling the Water Tank

  1. Ensure the iron is unplugged from the electrical outlet.
  2. Set the steam control to the 'Dry Ironing' position (no steam).
  3. Open the water tank inlet cover.
  4. Fill the water tank with tap water up to the 'MAX' fill line. Do not overfill.
  5. Close the water tank inlet cover securely.

Note: For optimal performance and to prolong the life of your iron, it is recommended to use untreated tap water. If your tap water is very hard, use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Temperature Setting

  1. Plug the iron into a suitable electrical outlet.
  2. Turn the temperature control dial to the desired setting based on the fabric type. Refer to the fabric care labels on your garments.
  3. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the iron is heating. It will turn off when the selected temperature is reached.

5.2 Steam Ironing

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled (refer to Section 4.1).
  2. Set the temperature control to a steam-compatible setting (usually indicated by the steam symbol on the dial). Steam is only generated at higher temperatures.
  3. Once the indicator light turns off, move the steam control lever to the desired steam position.
  4. Begin ironing.

5.3 Dry Ironing

  1. Ensure the steam control lever is set to the 'Dry Ironing' position (no steam).
  2. Set the temperature control dial to the desired setting.
  3. You can perform dry ironing with or without water in the tank.

5.4 Burst of Steam and Vertical Steam

  • Burst of Steam: Press the burst of steam button to release a powerful shot of steam. This is useful for removing stubborn creases. Wait a few seconds between bursts.
  • Vertical Steam: Hold the iron vertically, about 1-2 inches away from the garment. Press the burst of steam button repeatedly to steam hanging clothes, curtains, or drapes. Ensure the temperature is set to a high steam-compatible setting.

5.5 Spray Function

Press the spray button to release a fine mist of water onto the fabric. This can help to dampen dry areas and make ironing easier.

5.6 Auto Shutoff

For safety and energy saving, your iron is equipped with an auto shutoff feature. If the iron is left motionless on its soleplate for 30 seconds, or on its heel rest for 8 minutes, it will automatically turn off. The indicator light will flash to signal this. To restart the iron, simply move it.

5.7 Cord Reel Operation

To extend the cord, pull it gently until it reaches the desired length. To retract the cord, press the cord reel button. Guide the cord as it retracts to prevent tangling.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your iron.

6.1 After Each Use

  1. Unplug the iron and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Empty any remaining water from the tank.
  3. Store the iron on its heel rest in a safe, dry place.

6.2 Cleaning the Soleplate

If the soleplate becomes dirty, clean it with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use metallic or abrasive scouring pads as they can scratch the soleplate.

6.3 Anti-Calc System Cleaning

Your iron features an integrated Anti-Calc system. For optimal performance, perform a self-cleaning cycle periodically (e.g., once a month, depending on water hardness and usage).

  1. Fill the water tank to the MAX line.
  2. Set the steam control to 'Dry Ironing' and the temperature to MAX.
  3. Plug in the iron and wait for the indicator light to turn off.
  4. Unplug the iron.
  5. Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
  6. Push and hold the self-clean button (if available, or refer to specific instructions for your model's anti-calc feature). Hot water and steam will be expelled from the soleplate, carrying away mineral deposits.
  7. Gently shake the iron until the water tank is empty.
  8. Plug the iron back in and let it heat up to dry the soleplate.
  9. Unplug and let it cool before storing.
