Assembly and Setup

Before first use, wash all detachable parts in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Ensure the motor base is unplugged from the electrical outlet before assembly.

  1. Attach the Grinding Head: Insert the grinding head into the motor base opening. Rotate it counter-clockwise until it locks securely into place.
  2. Insert the Worm Gear: Place the worm gear into the grinding head, ensuring the square end fits into the motor drive shaft.
  3. Position the Cutting Blade: Place the cutting blade onto the worm gear shaft with the sharp edges facing outwards, towards the grinding plate.
  4. Select and Attach Grinding Plate: Choose either the coarse or fine grinding plate. Place it over the cutting blade, aligning the notch on the plate with the tab on the grinding head.
  5. Secure with Locking Ring: Screw the locking ring onto the grinding head until it is hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
  6. Place the Hopper: Position the food hopper on top of the grinding head.
  7. Sausage Stuffer Assembly (Optional): If making sausages, attach the sausage stuffer cone to the grinding head after the worm gear and before the locking ring, replacing the cutting blade and grinding plate.

Operating Instructions

Ensure the grinder is assembled correctly and placed on a stable, flat surface. Prepare food by cutting it into pieces small enough to fit into the hopper opening.

  1. Prepare Food: Cut meat, vegetables, or fruits into small cubes or strips that can easily pass through the hopper. Remove any bones, tough tendons, or large pieces of fat from meat.
  2. Place Receptacle: Position a bowl or container under the grinding head to collect the ground food.
  3. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  4. Turn On: Flip the ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position.
  5. Feed Food: Gently place prepared food into the hopper. Use the food pusher to guide the food down into the grinding mechanism. Never use your fingers or any other utensil to push food into the grinder.
  6. Grinding Process: The grinder will process the food. Do not overload the unit. If the motor strains or jams, turn off the unit immediately, unplug it, and clear any blockages.
  7. Turn Off: Once grinding is complete, flip the ON/OFF switch to the "OFF" position and unplug the appliance from the outlet.

Tips for Best Results:

  • For grinding meat, chill the meat and grinder parts (grinding head, worm gear, blade, plate) in the freezer for 15-30 minutes before grinding. This helps prevent smearing and ensures cleaner cuts.
  • When making baby food, use the fine grinding plate for a smoother consistency.
  • For sausage making, ensure the meat is well-chilled and use the sausage stuffer attachment.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your Rival Electric Food Grinder.

  1. Unplug: Always ensure the grinder is unplugged from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
  2. Disassemble: Disassemble all removable parts: hopper, locking ring, grinding plate, cutting blade, worm gear, and grinding head.
  3. Wash Parts: Wash all detachable parts in warm, soapy water. The detachable hopper and other parts are dishwasher-safe. For best results and to prevent rust on metal parts (like the cutting blade and grinding plates), hand wash and dry immediately.
  4. Clean Motor Base: Wipe the motor base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor base in water or any other liquid.
  5. Dry Thoroughly: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling or storing. Metal parts, especially the grinding plates and blade, are prone to rust if not dried properly. Applying a thin layer of food-grade mineral oil to metal parts after drying can help prevent rust during storage.
  6. Storage: Store the assembled or disassembled grinder in a dry place.
