4. Installation
4.1 Safety Precautions
Before beginning installation, ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected. Exercise caution when working with electrical systems and engine components. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions regarding component removal and access.
4.2 Mounting the Gauge
- Select a suitable location on your dashboard or a gauge pod for optimal visibility.
- Drill a 2-inch (52mm) diameter hole for the gauge.
- Remove the retaining nut and ring from the back of the gauge.
- Insert the gauge into the drilled hole from the front of the panel.
- Place the retaining ring over the back of the gauge and thread the retaining nut onto the gauge body. Tighten securely by hand, ensuring the gauge is oriented correctly.
4.3 Connecting the Oil Pressure Line
The EQUUS 8244 is a mechanical gauge and requires a direct connection to the engine's oil pressure port. Use the supplied oil pressure line and fittings. Additional adapters may be required depending on your engine's specific oil pressure port thread size. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent oil leaks.
4.4 Wiring for Illumination
The gauge features back-lit illumination. Connect the red wire to a switched 12V power source (e.g., ignition), the black wire to a reliable ground point, and the white wire to the vehicle's dash illumination circuit. This allows the gauge to light up with your vehicle's dashboard lights. Interchangeable bulb covers (red, green, blue, yellow) are provided to customize the illumination color.

5. Operation
Once installed and the engine is running, the gauge needle will indicate the engine's oil pressure in PSI (pounds per square inch) and kPa (kilopascals). Normal operating pressure can vary by vehicle and engine type; consult your vehicle's service manual for recommended oil pressure ranges. A sudden drop or increase in oil pressure outside the normal range may indicate an engine issue and should be investigated immediately.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the gauge face and bezel with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the lens or finish.
- Connection Checks: Periodically inspect the oil pressure line and electrical connections for tightness and signs of wear or damage. Ensure no oil leaks are present around the sensor or line fittings.
- Bulb Replacement: If the illumination bulb fails, carefully remove the gauge from its mounting, replace the bulb, and re-install.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Reading / Erratic Reading:
- Check all mechanical connections for leaks or blockages in the oil pressure line.
- Verify the oil pressure sensor is correctly installed and functioning.
- Ensure the gauge is properly grounded.
- No Illumination:
- Check the connection to the vehicle's illumination circuit.
- Inspect the illumination bulb for failure and replace if necessary.
- Verify power and ground connections for the illumination circuit.
