Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the two supplied AA-size NiMH batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2. Memory Card Insertion
The camera uses Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Duo PRO media (32 MB internal memory is included, but an external card is recommended for extended use).
- Open the memory card slot cover, usually located near the battery compartment.
- Insert the Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Duo PRO card with the label facing the correct direction (refer to the diagram inside the compartment). Push until it clicks into place.
- Close the memory card slot cover securely.
Operating Your Camera
1. Powering On/Off
- To power on: Press the POWER button. The lens will extend, and the LCD screen will activate.
- To power off: Press the POWER button again. The lens will retract.
2. Taking Photos
- Select your desired shooting mode using the mode dial (e.g., Auto, Program Auto, Scene Selection).
- Frame your shot using the 3.0-inch LCD display.
- Press the Shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus indicator will light up.
- Press the Shutter button all the way down to capture the photo.
3. Recording Videos
The DSC-H5 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio-video clips at up to 30 frames per second.
- Turn the mode dial to the Movie mode.
- Press the Movie button to start recording.
- Press the Movie button again to stop recording.
4. Zoom Function
Utilize the 12x optical zoom for close-up shots or wider views.
- Use the Zoom Lever (W/T) to adjust the zoom level.
- Push the lever towards T (Telephoto) to zoom in.
- Push the lever towards W (Wide) to zoom out.
5. Image Stabilization (Super SteadyShot)
The 12x Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization helps reduce blur caused by camera shake, especially at higher zoom levels or in low light.
- This feature is typically active by default. Check your camera's menu settings to ensure it is enabled for optimal performance.
6. High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000)
For shooting in low-light conditions without flash, activate the High Sensitivity Mode.
- Access the camera's menu and navigate to the ISO settings.
- Select ISO 1000 to enhance light sensitivity.
7. LCD Display
The 3.0-inch LCD display is used for framing shots, reviewing images, and navigating menus.
- Press the DISPLAY button to cycle through different display information options.
- Use the Playback button to review captured photos and videos.
Maintenance
- Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for camera lenses. Avoid touching the lens with your fingers.
- Cleaning the Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water.

Troubleshooting
Camera Does Not Power On
- Ensure batteries are correctly inserted and fully charged.
