The PowerShot A700 operates on two AA-size batteries. Follow these steps to install them:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the side or bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert two AA-size batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.3 Memory Card Insertion

The camera uses SD or MMC memory cards for storing images and videos. A 16MB MultiMediaCard is included.

  1. Locate the memory card slot, typically near the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the SD or MMC card with the metal contacts facing the correct direction, usually towards the front of the camera. Push until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, gently push the card in until it springs out.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1 Power On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button, usually located on the top panel, to power the camera on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

3.2 Basic Photography

  1. Select a Shooting Mode: Rotate the mode dial (visible on the top panel) to choose from various modes such as Auto, Program (P), Shutter-priority (Tv), Aperture-priority (Av), Manual (M), and Special Scene modes (e.g., Night Snapshot, Snow).
  2. Frame Your Shot: Use the 2.5-inch LCD monitor or the optical viewfinder to compose your image.
  3. Zoom: Use the zoom lever (typically around the shutter button) to adjust the 6x optical zoom. Move it towards 'W' for wide-angle and 'T' for telephoto.
  4. Focus: The camera uses FlexiZone AF/AE and 9-point AiAF for accurate focusing. Half-press the shutter button to focus.
  5. Take a Picture: Fully press the shutter button to capture the image.
  6. Flash: The built-in flash can be set to Auto, On, or Off depending on the shooting mode and lighting conditions. Note that flash recycling time may vary.

3.3 Video Recording

To record videos, select the movie mode on the mode dial. The camera supports 30-frame-per-second VGA quality movies (up to 1 GB) or 60-frame-per-second QVGA clips. A Compact mode is available for smaller clips suitable for email.

3.4 Reviewing Images and Videos

Press the PLAY button (often indicated by a triangle icon) to enter playback mode. Use the directional buttons to navigate through your captured photos and videos. The 2.5-inch LCD screen will display your media.

3.5 Connecting to a Computer

Use the supplied USB interface cable (IFC-400PCU) to connect the camera to a computer. This allows for transferring images and videos. Install the Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM software for full functionality.

3.6 Direct Printing

The PowerShot A700 is PictBridge compliant, enabling direct printing to compatible printers, including Canon Selphy CP Compact Photo Printers and most Canon PIXMA printers. Connect the camera directly to the printer using a USB cable and follow the on-screen instructions.
