Important Safety Instructions
Please read these instructions carefully before using the appliance and keep them for future reference. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always ensure the voltage indicated on the rating plate corresponds to your mains voltage.
- Do not immerse the iron or its base in water or any other liquid.
- Do not leave the iron unattended while it is switched on or connected to the mains.
- Keep the iron and its cord out of reach of children when it is switched on or cooling down.
- Use the iron only for its intended purpose, which is ironing clothes.
- Never touch the hot soleplate.
- Unplug the iron from the mains socket before filling or emptying the water tank, and when not in use.
- If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.
1. Setup and First Use
1.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the iron from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport. Check for any damage during transit. If the appliance is damaged, do not use it and contact customer service.
1.2 Filling the Water Tank
Before filling the water tank, ensure the iron is unplugged from the power outlet and has cooled down. Use clean tap water. For areas with hard water, distilled or demineralized water is recommended to prevent limescale buildup.

- Open the water inlet cap, usually located on the front or top of the iron.
- Carefully pour water into the tank using a measuring jug, ensuring not to exceed the maximum fill line. The water tank capacity is approximately 1 liter.
- Close the water inlet cap securely.
1.3 Initial Heating
For the first use, or after a long period of storage, it is advisable to iron an old piece of fabric to remove any manufacturing residues from the soleplate. This prevents staining your garments.
- Plug the iron into a suitable grounded power outlet (220-240V, 50/60Hz).
- Set the temperature dial to the maximum setting.
- Allow the iron to heat up until the indicator light turns off, signaling it has reached the desired temperature.
- Press the steam button a few times to clear any residue.
2. Operating the Iron
2.1 Temperature Selection
The iron features a temperature control dial. Select the appropriate temperature setting based on the fabric type of your garment. Always check the garment's care label. Start with lower temperatures for delicate fabrics and increase for heavier materials.
- Low Temperature: Synthetics, Silk
- Medium Temperature: Wool
- High Temperature: Cotton, Linen
2.2 Steam Function
The De'Longhi VVX 340 offers powerful steam for effective wrinkle removal. Ensure the water tank is filled and the iron is heated to a high enough temperature (usually indicated by the "OK STEAM" light) before using the steam function.

Image 2: Detail of the iron's handle, highlighting the steam control and the "VERTICAL STEAM" feature.
- Continuous Steam: Adjust the steam control slider to the desired steam output.
- Steam Shot: Press the steam shot button for an extra burst of steam to tackle stubborn wrinkles.
- Vertical Steam: Hold the iron vertically and press the steam shot button to steam hanging garments, curtains, or drapes.
Note: The steam function is most effective at higher temperatures. If the temperature is too low, water may drip from the soleplate.
2.3 Dry Ironing
For dry ironing, ensure the steam control slider is set to the "no steam" position. You can iron without water in the tank, or with water, as long as the steam function is deactivated.
3. Maintenance and Storage
3.1 Cleaning the Soleplate
To clean the soleplate, ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool. Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use metallic scouring pads or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the soleplate coating.
3.2 Emptying the Water Tank
After each use, or before storing the iron, it is recommended to empty any remaining water from the tank. This helps prevent limescale buildup and leakage.
- Unplug the iron and allow it to cool completely.
- Open the water inlet cap.
- Invert the iron over a sink and allow all water to drain out.
- Close the water inlet cap.
3.3 Descaling (Anti-Calc System)
The De'Longhi VVX 340 may feature an anti-calc system to reduce limescale buildup. Refer to the specific instructions provided with your model for descaling procedures. Regular descaling ensures optimal steam performance and extends the life of your iron.
General Descaling Steps (if applicable):
- Fill the water tank with a descaling solution or a mixture of water and white vinegar (check manufacturer's recommendations).
- Heat the iron to its maximum temperature.
- Allow steam to be released for several minutes, or follow the specific descaling cycle if available.
- Empty the tank and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Iron an old cloth to remove any descaling residue.
3.4 Storage
Store the iron upright on its heel rest in a safe, dry place after it has completely cooled down and the water tank has been emptied. Do not wrap the cord tightly around the iron while it is still hot.
4. Troubleshooting
Before contacting customer service, please refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | Not plugged in; power outlet fault; temperature dial set to minimum. | Check power connection; test outlet with another appliance; adjust temperature dial. |
| No steam or insufficient steam. | Water tank empty; temperature too low; steam control set to "no steam"; limescale buildup. | Fill water tank; increase temperature setting; adjust steam control; descale the iron. |
| Water drips from the soleplate. | Temperature too low for steam; overfilling the water tank. | Increase temperature; do not exceed the MAX fill line. |
| Brown stains on fabric. | Residue on soleplate; impurities in water; first use residue. | Clean soleplate; use distilled water; iron an old cloth during first use. |
