SCC TC2111MM Radial Chain LT Cable Tire Traction Chain User Manual

Model: TC2111MM

Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective installation, operation, and removal of your SCC TC2111MM Radial Chain LT Cable Tire Traction Chains. Please read all instructions carefully before use to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Safety Information

  • Always install traction chains on a firm, level surface away from traffic.
  • Engage the emergency brake before installation or removal.
  • Wear high-visibility clothing if working near traffic.
  • Remove any wheel covers if chains or rubber tensioners may contact alloy wheels or wheel covers to prevent marring.
  • Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for specific tire chain recommendations and possible clearance issues.
  • Do not exceed 30 mph (48 km/h) when using traction chains.
  • Avoid sudden starts, stops, or turns.
  • Inspect chains for damage or wear before each use.

Setup (Installation)

It is highly recommended to practice installation in dry conditions at least once to familiarize yourself with the process and ensure proper fit.

Preparation

  1. Park your vehicle on a firm, level surface, away from the flow of traffic.
  2. Set the emergency brake.
  3. If your vehicle has alloy wheels or wheel covers that might be contacted by the chains, remove the wheel covers.

Chain Placement

  1. Lay the cable chain on the ground with the smooth side, marked "TIRE SIDE," facing up.
  2. Move the chain in a sweeping motion under the vehicle so the open mid-section is positioned against the backside of the tire.

Connecting the Chains

  1. Reach around each side of the tire and grab both ends of the non-split cable that is furthest away from you.
  2. Pull both ends to the top of the tire so the fasteners can be easily seen and manipulated.
  3. Close the inside fastener.
  4. At the top of the outside cable, take the bushing end of the outside split-side cable and thread it through the black keyhole fastener.
  5. Take the outside cable with both hands and pull it towards you to create as much slack as possible.
  6. Take the bushing end of the lower fastener and thread it through the keyhole.

Attaching the Tensioner

  1. Attach the tensioner to take up additional slack. To simplify this, attach the first hook at the 12 o'clock position, the next hook opposite at the 6 o'clock position, and so forth.
  2. The open side of the hooks should face away from the tire to prevent them from digging into the tire.
  3. No additional adjustment is necessary after the tensioner is correctly attached.

Operating

  • Drive slowly and cautiously. Do not exceed 30 mph (48 km/h).
  • After driving a short distance (approximately 1/4 mile or 400 meters), stop and re-check the tension of the chains. Re-tighten if necessary.
  • The chains are designed to be compatible with Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), Traction Control, All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and other electronically monitored control systems.
  • These chains meet SAE Class S clearance requirements, indicating suitability for vehicles with limited clearance.

Removal

  1. Drive your vehicle off the highway to a safe, level area.
  2. Set the emergency brake.
  3. Remove the rubber tensioner.
  4. Unhook the outside and inside fasteners. The inside fastener is opposite the black outside fastener.
  5. Lay the chains on the ground and drive your vehicle forward to clear them.

Maintenance

  • After each use, clean the chains with water to remove any salt or debris.
  • Lubricate the chains with a suitable lubricant (e.g., white lightning or WD40) to prevent rust and ensure longevity.
  • Store the chains in their original carrying case in a dry place when not in use.

Troubleshooting

  • Chains do not fit: Ensure you have selected the correct model number for your tire size. Refer to the Tire Application Guide.
  • Difficulty with fasteners: If fasteners are stiff or difficult to connect, inspect for burrs and ensure the cable ends are properly aligned. Practice in dry conditions can help.
  • Chains feel loose after driving: This is normal. Stop and re-tighten the chains after driving a short distance.
