Schneider Electric Telemecanique Sensors FSG2J21CP Water Pressure Switch Instruction Manual

Model: FSG2J21CP

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of the Schneider Electric Telemecanique Sensors FSG2J21CP 30-50 PSI Pumptrol Water Pressure Switch. This device is designed to control water pumps by sensing system pressure and activating or deactivating the pump accordingly. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation or use.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Disconnect all power to the pump and pressure switch before performing any installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting procedures. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.

  • Ensure all electrical connections comply with local and national electrical codes.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or plumber.
  • Verify that the system pressure does not exceed the maximum rated pressure of the switch (1517 kPa / 220 PSI).
  • Do not operate the switch if it is damaged.
  • Keep the switch cover securely fastened during operation.

3. Product Overview

The FSG2J21CP is a durable water pressure switch designed for various pump applications. It features standard-action contacts that open on rising pressure, ensuring reliable pump control within its specified pressure range.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the pressure switch:

  1. Disconnect Power: Ensure all electrical power to the pump system is completely disconnected at the main breaker.
  2. Relieve System Pressure: Drain the water system to relieve any existing pressure.
  3. Mounting: The switch is typically mounted directly to a 1/4 inch NPT female pipe fitting on the pump discharge or pressure tank. Apply thread sealant to the male threads of the pressure switch connection before installation.
  4. Electrical Connections: Remove the grey cover. Connect the electrical wiring according to the wiring diagram provided inside the switch cover and local electrical codes. Ensure all connections are secure. The switch is designed for corded electric power sources.
  5. Secure Cover: Replace the grey cover securely after wiring is complete.
  6. Restore Power: Slowly restore power to the pump system and check for leaks and proper operation.

5. Operating Instructions

The FSG2J21CP pressure switch is factory-set to operate within a 30-50 PSI range. This means the pump will turn on when the system pressure drops to 30 PSI and turn off when it reaches 50 PSI.

Pressure Adjustment (If Necessary)

While the switch is preset, minor adjustments to the cut-in and cut-out pressures can be made. Refer to the instructions printed inside the switch cover for detailed adjustment procedures. Typically, there are two adjustment screws:

  • Range Adjustment: Affects both cut-in and cut-out pressures equally.
  • Differential Adjustment: Changes the difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressures.

Always ensure power is disconnected before removing the cover for adjustments. Use a pressure gauge to verify settings.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your pressure switch.

  • Periodic Inspection: Annually inspect the switch for any signs of corrosion, loose wiring, or physical damage.
  • Contact Points: Over time, electrical contacts can corrode or pit. If the pump is cycling erratically or not engaging, inspect the contacts (with power disconnected). If severely corroded, replacement may be necessary.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the area around the switch clean and free from debris.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your pressure switch.
