Installation Instructions
Tools Required: Pencil, Drill with appropriate bit for pilot holes, Screwdriver (Phillips head recommended), Hammer (if using nail).
- Determine Placement: Identify the optimal location on your cabinet frame and the corresponding spot on the cabinet door for the catch and strike plate. Ensure the catch will align properly with the strike plate when the door is closed.
- Mount the Magnetic Catch:
- Position the tan plastic magnetic catch on the cabinet frame.
- Mark the screw hole locations with a pencil.
- Drill small pilot holes at the marked locations to prevent wood splitting.
- Secure the magnetic catch to the cabinet frame using the two #6 Truss Head Screws. Do not overtighten.
- Mount the Strike Plate:
- Close the cabinet door gently to align the strike plate with the installed magnetic catch. The magnetic force will help hold the strike plate in position.
- Mark the location for the strike plate on the inside of the cabinet door.
- Drill a small pilot hole for the #15 nail (if applicable) or screw, then secure the strike plate to the cabinet door. Ensure the strike plate is flush and securely attached.
- Test Operation: Open and close the cabinet door several times to ensure the magnetic catch engages and holds the door securely. Adjust placement slightly if necessary for optimal performance.

Operation
The Amerock BP97653PT Magnetic Cabinet Catch operates by utilizing a magnet within the tan plastic housing to attract a metal strike plate mounted on the cabinet door. When the cabinet door is closed, the magnetic force pulls the strike plate towards the catch, holding the door firmly in a closed position. To open the door, simply pull it away from the cabinet frame, overcoming the magnetic force.
Maintenance
This magnetic cabinet catch requires minimal maintenance. To ensure longevity and proper function:
- Cleaning: Wipe the plastic housing and metal strike plate with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or material.
- Inspection: Periodically check the screws for tightness. If the catch or strike plate becomes loose, gently tighten the mounting screws.
- Alignment: Ensure the magnetic catch and strike plate remain properly aligned. Misalignment can reduce the holding force.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Door does not stay closed | Misalignment of catch and strike plate | Adjust the position of either the magnetic catch or the strike plate to ensure proper alignment. |
| Door opens too easily | Loose mounting screws | Tighten all mounting screws for both the catch and the strike plate. |
| Catch appears damaged | Physical damage or wear | Inspect for cracks or breaks. If damaged, replacement may be necessary. |
