3. Setup and Installation

The Medline Toilet Safety Rail is designed for easy installation onto most standard toilets. No special tools are required.

  1. Prepare the Toilet: Lift the toilet seat and lid. Locate the two bolts that secure the toilet seat to the toilet bowl.
  2. Position the Bracket: Place the adjustable mounting bracket of the safety rail over the toilet seat bolts. Ensure the bracket is centered and flush against the toilet bowl.
  3. Secure the Rail: Re-attach the toilet seat and lid, aligning the holes with the bracket and toilet bowl. Use the provided mounting knobs to tighten the bracket securely to the toilet seat bolts. Hand-tighten only; do not overtighten.
  4. Adjust Width: The width between the arms can be adjusted. Loosen the knobs on the horizontal bar of the frame, slide the arms to the desired width (between 15-18 inches), and re-tighten the knobs.
  5. Verify Stability: Gently test the rail by applying downward pressure to ensure it is stable and does not wobble. If unstable, re-check all connections and tighten the mounting knobs.

Using the Safety Rail

The safety rail provides a secure grip for assistance. When sitting down, slowly lower yourself while holding onto the armrests. When standing up, push down on the armrests to assist in rising.

Height Adjustment

The height of the armrests can be adjusted to suit individual user needs, ranging from 27.5 inches to 31.5 inches from the floor.

  1. Locate the spring-loaded adjustment pins on each leg of the safety rail.
  2. Press the pin inward and slide the leg up or down to the desired height. Ensure the pin fully engages in one of the adjustment holes.
  3. Repeat for the other leg, ensuring both sides are adjusted to the same height for stability.

Cleaning

The Medline Toilet Safety Rail features a durable aluminum frame with a scratch-resistant powder coating, making it easy to clean.

  • Wipe down the frame and armrests regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish.
  • Ensure the rail is dry before next use.

Inspection

Periodically inspect the safety rail for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components.

  • Check the mounting bracket and knobs for tightness.
  • Inspect the rubber tips on the legs for wear; replace if damaged to maintain slip resistance.
  • Ensure height adjustment pins engage properly.

6. Troubleshooting

Issue: The safety rail feels wobbly or unstable.
Solution:
  • Ensure the mounting knobs securing the bracket to the toilet seat bolts are fully tightened.
  • Verify that both legs are adjusted to the same height and the adjustment pins are fully engaged.
  • Check that the width adjustment knobs on the horizontal bar are securely tightened.
Issue: The rail does not fit my toilet.
Solution:
  • The rail is designed to fit most standard toilets. Ensure the adjustable mounting bracket is correctly positioned over the toilet seat bolts.
  • Confirm that the width between the arms is adjusted appropriately for your toilet and user comfort.
