2. Initial Setup

Upon receiving your watch, you may need to perform a few steps to begin operation and set the correct time and date.

  1. Remove Crown Guard: A small plastic spacer may be inserted under the crown (the knob on the side of the watch). Gently pull this plastic piece out and discard it. This allows the crown to fully engage with the watch mechanism.
  2. Set Time: Pull the crown out to its outermost position. Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to move the hands until the correct time is displayed. Push the crown back in to start the watch.
  3. Set Date: Pull the crown out to the middle position. Rotate the crown to adjust the date. If your watch also displays the day of the week, you may need to rotate the crown through 24-hour cycles to advance the day. Once the desired date (and day) is set, push the crown back in.

3. Operating Your Watch

The Timex Easy Reader is designed for straightforward operation.

  • Reading the Time: The large Arabic numerals and distinct hour and minute hands allow for quick and easy time reading at a glance.
  • INDIGLO Night-Light: To activate the INDIGLO backlight, press and hold the crown. The entire dial will illuminate, making it easy to read the time in the dark. Release the crown to turn off the light.
  • Date Display: The date window at the 3 o'clock position displays the current date.

4. Care and Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your Timex watch.

  • Water Resistance: This watch is water-resistant to 30 meters (WR 30M). This means it can withstand splashes or brief immersion in water, such as during hand washing or light rain. It is not suitable for swimming, bathing, or diving. Avoid pressing the crown while the watch is wet.
  • Cleaning: To clean your watch, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. For the metal expansion band, a soft brush can be used to remove dirt from between the links. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Battery Replacement: The watch uses 1 Lithium Metal CR2016 battery (3.0V). Battery life can vary, but frequent use of the INDIGLO backlight will consume battery power more quickly. When the battery needs replacement, it is recommended to take the watch to a qualified jeweler or watch repair service to ensure proper sealing and maintain water resistance.
  • Storage: When not in use, store your watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

5. Troubleshooting Common Issues

Here are solutions to some common issues you might encounter:

  • Difficulty Setting Day/Date: If you find it challenging to set the day or date, ensure the crown is pulled out to the correct position (middle position for date/day adjustment). For day adjustment, you typically need to rotate the crown through 24-hour cycles until the correct day appears. It is often easier to set the day/date for the previous day, then advance the time past midnight to the current day/date to ensure the watch changes at noon rather than midnight.
  • INDIGLO Backlight Not Fully Illuminating: In some cases, the INDIGLO backlight might appear uneven or not fully illuminate the dial. This can sometimes be a manufacturing variation. If the issue significantly impacts readability or is a new development, consider contacting customer support.
  • Expansion Band Fit: The stainless steel expansion band is designed to fit a range of wrist sizes (up to 8-inch circumference). If the band is too loose, links may need to be removed. This process can be complex and is best performed by a jeweler to avoid damage.
