CAMPINGAZ 68222 Mantle Symphony Type, Pack of 3 Instruction Manual

Comprehensive guide for the installation and use of CAMPINGAZ Symphony Type Mantles.

1. Product Overview

The CAMPINGAZ 68222 Mantle Symphony Type is a pack of three replacement mantles designed specifically for CAMPINGAZ Symphony gas lanterns. These mantles are essential components for the proper operation of your lantern, producing the bright, consistent light characteristic of gas lanterns. Each mantle is made from a synthetic material, ensuring durability and efficient light output.

2. Compatibility

These mantles are exclusively compatible with CAMPINGAZ Symphony gas lanterns. Ensure your lantern model is a "Symphony" type to guarantee proper fit and function. Using incompatible mantles may result in poor performance or damage to your lantern.

3. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the gas lantern is completely cool and disconnected from its fuel source before handling or replacing mantles.
  • Perform mantle replacement in a well-ventilated area.
  • Mantles are fragile. Handle them with care to avoid tearing.
  • Keep mantles and gas lanterns away from children and pets.
  • Never touch a hot mantle or lantern components immediately after use.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to correctly install a new mantle on your CAMPINGAZ Symphony gas lantern:

  1. Prepare the Lantern: Ensure the lantern is off, cool, and disconnected from the gas cartridge. Remove the globe and ventilator (top cover) to access the burner assembly.
  2. Remove Old Mantle (if applicable): Carefully remove any remnants of the old mantle. Use a soft brush to gently clean the burner nozzle if necessary, ensuring no debris remains.
  3. Attach New Mantle: Take one new mantle from the pack. Locate the small string at the base of the mantle. Place the mantle over the burner nozzle, ensuring it sits snugly. Tie the string securely around the groove at the base of the burner, just below the ceramic part. Trim any excess string.
  4. Inspect Installation: Gently tug on the mantle to ensure it is firmly attached and centered on the burner. Avoid excessive force, as mantles are delicate.

5. Operating Instructions (Pre-burning/Conditioning)

Before using your lantern for illumination, the new mantle must be "pre-burned" or conditioned:

  1. Connect Gas: Reconnect the gas cartridge to the lantern. Ensure all connections are tight.
  2. Pre-burn the Mantle: Without replacing the globe or ventilator, slowly open the gas valve slightly. Using a long match or lighter, carefully ignite the mantle from the bottom. The mantle will burn with a flame, turning white and shrinking as the binder material burns off.
  3. Complete Burning: Allow the mantle to burn completely until it glows white and there is no more flame. This process typically takes a few minutes. The mantle will become very fragile after this.
  4. Cool Down: Turn off the gas and allow the mantle to cool completely. It will now be a delicate, ash-like structure.
  5. Reassemble: Carefully replace the globe and ventilator. Your lantern is now ready for normal operation.

Note: The mantle is extremely fragile after pre-burning. Avoid touching or bumping it. Any impact can cause it to break, requiring replacement.

6. Maintenance

  • Gentle Handling: Always handle your lantern with care, especially when transporting it, to prevent damage to the delicate mantle.
  • Storage: When storing the lantern for extended periods, consider removing the gas cartridge and storing the lantern in a protective case to minimize accidental mantle damage.
  • Replacement: Replace the mantle if it develops holes, tears, or becomes discolored, as this will reduce light output and efficiency.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Mantle Does Not Glow Brightly:
    • Ensure the mantle was fully pre-burned and is intact.
    • Check gas flow and pressure.
    • Verify the mantle is securely tied and centered on the burner.
  • Mantle Tears During Installation/Pre-burning:
    • Mantles are very delicate. Handle with extreme care.
    • If torn, replace with a new mantle.
  • Flickering or Uneven Light:
    • Check for any small holes or damage in the mantle.
    • Ensure the gas flow is consistent and the burner is clear of obstructions.
