Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using this appliance to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
- Keep hands, hair, and loose clothing away from the paper entry slot.
- Keep children and pets away from the shredder.
- Unplug the shredder when not in use or before moving or cleaning.
- Do not operate with a damaged power cord or plug.
- Do not shred metal objects, large paper clips, or hard plastic (other than credit cards).
- Do not spray aerosols or lubricants into the shredder.
Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the shredder from its packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Placement: Place the shredder on a flat, stable surface near a power outlet. Ensure adequate space around the unit for ventilation.
- Wastebasket Installation: The PS-70 features a 7-gallon pull-out wastebasket. Ensure the wastebasket is correctly inserted and fully closed. The shredder will not operate if the wastebasket is ajar due to a safety interlock switch.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions
The Fellowes Powershred PS-70 is designed for efficient shredding of documents, credit cards, and CDs.
- Powering On: Locate the power switch on the shredder head. Set it to the "Auto" position. The shredder is now ready for operation.
- Shredding Paper:
- Insert up to 14 sheets of paper into the 9-inch paper entry slot. The shredder will automatically start when paper is detected and stop when shredding is complete.
- The sheet capacity gauge helps prevent paper jams by indicating when the maximum sheet capacity is approached.
- The PS-70 shreds paper into 7/32-inch strips.
- Shredding Credit Cards/CDs:
- For credit cards, insert one card at a time into the designated safety slot.
- For CDs, insert one CD at a time into the designated safety slot.
- Continuous Operation: The shredder is designed for intermittent use. Continuous operation beyond approximately 10-12 minutes will trigger a 20-minute cool-down period to prevent overheating. The shredder will automatically shut off and alert the operator.
- Reverse Function: In case of a minor jam or to clear the cutting mechanism, switch the power to the "Reverse" position.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your shredder.
- Emptying the Wastebasket: When the wastebasket is full, the shredder will stop operating. Pull out the wastebasket, empty its contents, and reinsert it securely.
- Oiling the Shredder: To maintain cutting performance and reduce noise, regularly oil the shredder blades. Apply shredder oil (sold separately) across the paper entry slot, then run a few sheets of paper through the shredder. Perform this after every 30 minutes of accumulated shredding or at least once a month.
- Cleaning: Unplug the shredder before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
