1. Product Overview
The BOSTITCH F21PL Pneumatic Framing Nailer is engineered for driving nails into various wood materials, including engineered lumber. This tool is designed for framing, sheathing, subflooring, and bracing applications. Its lightweight magnesium body enhances manageability during extended use. The nailer features quick-change nosepieces, allowing conversion between plastic-collated framing nails and metal connector nails. An integrated 16-inch layout indicator on the magazine assists in maintaining correct stud spacing. An adjustable rafter hook provides convenient storage on joists or rafters.

2. Setup Instructions
2.1 Connecting the Air Hose
Ensure the air compressor is turned off and depressurized before connecting the nailer. Attach a standard air hose to the tool's air inlet. Verify a secure connection to prevent air leaks during operation.
2.2 Loading Fasteners
The F21PL nailer utilizes 21-degree plastic collated framing nails ranging from 1-1/2 inches to 3-1/2 inches. It also supports 1-1/2-inch to 2-1/2-inch metal connector nails. To load, pull back the magazine follower, insert the nail strip into the magazine, and release the follower to secure the nails. Ensure the nails are correctly oriented within the magazine.

2.3 Adjusting Depth
The tool features a patented push-button adjustable depth guide. This allows for precise control over nail depth, ensuring fasteners are set to the desired level without requiring additional tools.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Firing Modes
The F21PL is equipped with a smart trigger that allows for both sequential and bump fire modes. The mode of operation is determined by how the tool is actuated. For precise, single-nail placement, use the sequential mode. For rapid fastening over larger areas, the bump fire mode can be engaged.
3.2 Safety Features
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, when operating the nailer. The tool is designed with a contact trip mechanism, requiring the nosepiece to be pressed against the work surface before the trigger can be pulled to fire a nail. This helps prevent accidental discharge.
3.3 Using Quick-Change Nosepieces
The nailer includes two quick-change nosepieces. One is for standard framing applications with plastic-collated nails, and the other is specifically designed for metal connector applications, allowing accurate nail placement for joist hangers and similar hardware.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your nailer. Before each use, apply a few drops of pneumatic tool oil into the air inlet. Keep the tool clean and free of debris, especially around the nosepiece and magazine. Periodically inspect all fasteners and moving parts for wear or damage. Store the tool in a dry, clean environment when not in use.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Nail Misfires or Incomplete Drives
- Insufficient Air Pressure: Ensure your air compressor is set to the recommended operating pressure (typically 70-120 PSI). Low pressure can result in nails not being fully driven.
- Improper Nail Loading: Verify that nails are correctly loaded into the magazine and that the magazine follower is applying adequate pressure.
- Tool Oiling: Lack of lubrication can affect tool performance. Apply pneumatic tool oil as part of routine maintenance.
- Damaged Fasteners: Inspect nail strips for damage or bent nails that may cause jams.
5.2 Air Leaks
Check all air connections for tightness. Inspect the air hose and fittings for any damage. If leaks persist from the tool itself, it may indicate internal seal wear, requiring professional service.
5.3 Jams
If a nail jam occurs, disconnect the air supply immediately. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for clearing jams, typically involving opening the nosepiece or magazine to remove the obstruction. Avoid forcing jammed nails, as this can damage the tool.
