RectorSeal No. 5 is suitable for a wide range of pipe materials, including galvanized steel, iron, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, polyethylene, reinforced fiberglass, and PVC. It is important to note that this product should NOT be used on ABS or CPVC piping.

4. Setup and Application

4.1. Preparation

  1. Ensure all pipe threads are clean and free from dirt, grease, or old sealant residue.
  2. Confirm the pipe material is compatible with RectorSeal No. 5 (e.g., galvanized steel, iron, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, polyethylene, reinforced fiberglass, PVC). Do not use on ABS or CPVC.
  3. Shake the tube well before use to ensure consistent product mixture.

4.2. Application Steps

  1. Apply a uniform coat of RectorSeal No. 5 to the male pipe threads. Ensure complete coverage of the threads, leaving the first two threads bare to prevent excess sealant from entering the pipe system.
  2. Assemble the pipe joint by hand-tightening, then use a wrench to tighten to the recommended torque for the specific pipe and fitting type.
  3. For natural gas and water lines up to 2 inches and pressure up to 100 psi, the piping system may be placed into immediate service. For other services, it is recommended to wait 24 hours after application to allow for proper setting.

5. Operating Conditions

Once applied and cured, RectorSeal No. 5 requires no specific maintenance. Periodically inspect sealed joints for any signs of leakage, especially in critical applications. The sealant's soft-set nature allows for easy disassembly and reapplication if future maintenance or repairs are needed.

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of ignition. Ensure the cap is tightly sealed after each use to prevent drying out.
