Product Components

Your Panasonic SR-G06FG Rice Cooker package includes the following items:

  • Rice Cooker Base (main unit)
  • Removable Non-stick Inner Pot
  • Glass Lid
  • Measuring Cup
  • Rice Scoop

Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the removable inner pot, glass lid, measuring cup, and rice scoop with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely. Do not immerse the main cooker base in water.
  3. Placement: Place the rice cooker base on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the unit.
  4. Insert Inner Pot: Ensure the exterior of the inner pot is dry before placing it securely into the cooker base.

Operating Instructions (Cooking Rice)

Follow these steps for perfectly cooked rice:

  1. Measure Rice: Use the provided measuring cup to measure the desired amount of uncooked rice. The maximum capacity for this cooker is 3.3 cups of uncooked rice.
  2. Wash Rice: Place the measured rice in a separate bowl or the inner pot (if removed from the base). Rinse the rice thoroughly with cold water until the water runs clear. This process helps remove excess starch and improves rice texture.
  3. Add Water: Transfer the washed rice to the removable inner pot. Add the appropriate amount of water. A general guideline is 1.5 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice, but this can be adjusted based on the type of rice and your preferred consistency.
  4. Place Inner Pot: Ensure the exterior of the inner pot is completely dry. Place the inner pot firmly into the rice cooker base.
  5. Close Lid: Place the glass lid securely on the inner pot.
  6. Start Cooking: Plug the rice cooker into a standard 120V electrical outlet. Press the "COOK" switch down. The "COOK" indicator light will illuminate, signifying that the cooking process has begun.
  7. Automatic Shut-off: The rice cooker will automatically switch to "WARM" mode once the rice is cooked. The "COOK" light will turn off.
  8. Resting Period: For best results, allow the rice to rest in the "WARM" mode for 10-15 minutes after cooking. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining moisture and become fluffier.
  9. Serve: Use the provided rice scoop to gently fluff the cooked rice before serving.

Important Note: This model is not recommended for cooking brown rice.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your rice cooker.

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the rice cooker from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Inner Pot and Lid: Hand wash the removable non-stick inner pot, glass lid, measuring cup, and rice scoop with warm water and a mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. To protect the non-stick coating, avoid using abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or metal utensils.
  3. Cooker Base: Wipe the exterior of the cooker base with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the cooker base in water or any other liquid, as this can damage the electrical components.
  4. Storage: Ensure all parts are dry before reassembling and storing the rice cooker in a dry place.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your rice cooker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Rice is too hard or dry:
    • Ensure the correct water-to-rice ratio was used.
    • Verify the lid was properly sealed during cooking.
    • Allow the rice to rest in "WARM" mode for 10-15 minutes after cooking to absorb remaining moisture.
  • Rice is too soft or mushy:
    • Reduce the amount of water slightly for the next batch.
    • Ensure rice was rinsed properly to remove excess starch.
  • Rice cooker does not turn on:
    • Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the cooker and a functioning electrical outlet.
    • Ensure the "COOK" switch is pressed down.
  • Water or foam sputtering out during cooking:
    • This can occur with some rice varieties or if too much water is used. Rinsing rice thoroughly before cooking can help reduce foaming.
    • Do not overfill the inner pot beyond the maximum capacity line.
