1. Setup
1.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffeemaker.
- Wash the glass carafe and its lid, the filter holder, and the permanent filter (if included) in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth.
1.2 First Use Cycle
Before brewing coffee for the first time, run two full cycles with only water to clean the internal components.
- Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
- Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
- Press the "On/Off" switch to start the cycle.
- Once the cycle is complete, discard the water. Repeat this process once more.
1.3 Water Filter Installation
The coffeemaker features a duo-filter water-filtration system. Refer to the filter packaging for specific installation instructions. Generally, the filter is placed within the water reservoir or filter basket.
2. Operating Instructions
2.1 Filling the Water Reservoir
- Ensure the coffeemaker is unplugged.
- Open the lid of the water reservoir.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh, cold water using the carafe. Use the water level indicator on the side of the coffeemaker to measure the desired number of cups. Do not exceed the "MAX" fill line.
- Close the reservoir lid securely.
2.2 Adding Ground Coffee
- Swing out the filter holder.
- Place a paper filter (size 4 cone filter) or the permanent filter into the filter holder.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one level tablespoon of coffee per cup, but adjust to your taste.
- Swing the filter holder back into place, ensuring it is securely closed.
2.3 Brewing Coffee
- Place the empty glass carafe with its lid on the warming plate. Ensure the carafe is properly seated to activate the brew-pause feature.
- Plug the coffeemaker into a standard electrical outlet.
- Press the "On/Off" switch. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- For 1 to 3 cups, press the "1-3 Cup Aroma" button to optimize extraction for smaller quantities.
- An audible signal will indicate when the brewing cycle is complete.
2.4 Brew-Pause Feature
The coffeemaker is equipped with a brew-pause feature, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete. The flow of coffee will automatically stop. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
2.5 Auto Shut-Off
For safety and energy conservation, the coffeemaker will automatically shut off two hours after the brewing cycle is completed.
3. Maintenance
3.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffeemaker before cleaning.
- Wash the carafe, lid, and filter holder in warm, soapy water after each use. These parts are generally top-rack dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker and the warming plate with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the coffeemaker in water or any other liquid.
3.2 Descaling
Mineral deposits (lime scale) can build up in your coffeemaker over time, affecting performance and coffee taste. Descale your coffeemaker regularly, depending on the hardness of your water and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Fill the water reservoir with a solution of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio, e.g., 4 cups vinegar to 8 cups water).
- Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Run a full brewing cycle.
- After the cycle, let the coffeemaker cool for 15 minutes.
- Run two full cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse thoroughly.
3.3 Water Filter Replacement
If your model uses a replaceable water filter, replace it according to the manufacturer's recommendations, typically every 2 months or after 60 brewing cycles, to maintain optimal water quality and reduce mineral buildup.
