Model: 01024

Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Saeco Magic Comfort Plus SuperAutomatic Espresso Machine. This fully automatic machine features a digital display for status updates and offers programmable functions for a customized coffee experience.

Please read this manual thoroughly before using the appliance and keep it for future reference. Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.

Setup

Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove all packaging materials. Place the machine on a stable, level surface away from heat sources and water. Ensure adequate space around the machine for ventilation and access to components. The machine includes a swivel base for easy access to the water tank, bean hopper, and service door.

Initial Cleaning

Before first use, wash the water tank, drip tray, and dregs drawer with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

Filling the Water Tank

Remove the water tank from the machine. Fill it with fresh, cold tap water up to the MAX level indicator. Reinsert the water tank securely into its position.

Adding Coffee Beans

Open the bean hopper lid. Pour fresh whole coffee beans into the hopper. Do not use ground coffee, instant coffee, or caramelized beans, as these can damage the grinder.

Priming the Machine (Ventilate Message)

After initial setup or if the machine has been without water, the display may show "VENTILATE" or "LOADING CIRCUIT". To prime the machine:

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place a container under the steam/hot water wand.
  3. Select the Hot Water function. The internal pump will begin to draw water.
  4. Allow water to flow until a steady stream is dispensed and the "VENTILATE" message disappears.

Operating

Powering On/Off

Press the power button to turn the machine on. The machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle and warm-up. It is ready for use when the display indicates "READY". To turn off, press the power button again. The machine will enter energy-saving mode automatically after a programmed period (default 3 hours, adjustable to 15 minutes).

Making Espresso or Coffee

Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts. Select your desired coffee strength and volume using the control panel buttons. The machine will grind the beans, brew, and dispense the coffee automatically.

Hot Water Function

Press the Hot Water button. Hot water will dispense from the steam wand. To stop, press the button again. The quantity of hot water can be programmed through the menu settings.

Steaming and Frothing Milk

The machine is equipped with a Panarello device for easy milk frothing.

  1. Place a pitcher with cold milk under the steam wand.
  2. Turn the steam knob to activate steam. Allow a few seconds for any residual water to purge from the wand until only steam is emitted.
  3. Immerse the Panarello device into the milk and move the pitcher to create froth.
  4. Once desired froth is achieved, turn the steam knob off. Clean the steam wand immediately after use.

Programming Functions

Access the programming menu via the control panel to adjust settings such as:

  • Language: Change the display language.
  • Water Temperature: Adjust the brewing temperature.
  • Rinsing Cycle: Enable or disable additional rinsing cycles.
  • Energy Save Mode: Adjust the time before the machine enters energy-saving mode.
  • Automated Descaling: Initiate the descaling process.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your espresso machine.

Emptying the Dregs Drawer and Drip Tray

The machine will indicate when the dregs drawer needs to be emptied. Remove the dregs drawer and drip tray, discard the spent coffee grounds, and rinse both components with warm water. If the "DREGSDRAWER MISSING" message appears after reinserting, remove it again for a few seconds while the machine is on, then reinsert.

Cleaning the Brew Group

The brew group is removable for easy cleaning. Follow the instructions in the menu to remove it. Rinse the brew group under running water to remove any coffee residues. Allow it to air dry before reinserting.

Descaling

Limescale buildup can affect machine performance. The machine has an automated descaling program. Use a Saeco-approved descaling solution and follow the on-screen prompts for the descaling process. Perform descaling regularly as indicated by the machine or based on water hardness.

Cleaning the Steam Wand

After each use, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Periodically remove the Panarello device and clean it thoroughly to prevent milk residue buildup.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For problems not listed here, please contact customer support.

  • "VENTILATE" or "LOADING CIRCUIT" message: This indicates the water circuit needs priming. Refer to the "Priming the Machine" section under Setup.
  • "DREGSDRAWER MISSING" message: Ensure the dregs drawer is correctly inserted. If the message persists, remove the drawer for a few seconds while the machine is on, then reinsert it.
  • Coffee is weak or not hot enough:
    • Adjust the water temperature setting in the programming menu.
    • Ensure the machine has completed its warm-up cycle.
    • For initial uses, it may take a week or two for the machine to "break in" and produce optimal temperature and strength.
    • Check coffee bean freshness and grind setting.
  • Machine not dispensing water/coffee: Check if the water tank is empty or not properly seated. Ensure the brew group is clean and correctly inserted.
