Introduction
The Katadyn KFT Expedition Microfilter is designed for high-output water filtration, suitable for groups and demanding environments. This durable steel construction filter produces up to 100,000 liters of treated water. Its 0.2 micron ceramic element effectively removes harmful organisms such as bacteria and protozoan cysts, providing up to 4 liters of clean drinking water per minute. The ceramic element is field-cleanable to restore flow rate as needed.
Components
The Katadyn KFT Expedition Water Filter includes the following components:
- Katadyn KFT Expedition Water Filter Unit (main pump body with ceramic filter element)
- Input Hose with Pre-filter and Floater
- Output Hose
- Carrying Bag
- Lubricant for O-rings
- Cleaning Scrubber
- Measuring Device (for filter element thickness)

Setup Instructions
- Unpack Components: Remove all components from the carrying bag.
- Adjust Pump Body Height: Loosen the clamping screw and adjust the pump body height to a stable position.
- Ensure Gasket Seal: Unfasten wing screws, raise the lid with the ceramic filter screwed in, and ensure a tight gasket seal.
- Attach Hoses: Attach the inlet hose with the pre-filter to the designated inlet port on the filter unit. Attach the output hose to the nozzle.
- Position Inlet Hose: Immerse the inlet hose with the pre-filter into the raw water source. Ensure the floater keeps the pre-filter above the bottom to avoid sucking up excessive sediment.

Operating Instructions
- Prime the Filter: Before collecting water for consumption, start pumping the handle up and down. Pump for approximately 20 strokes to prime the filter and ensure water flows through the output hose. Discard this initial water.
- Collect Water: Place your water bottle, hydration bladder, or other water-carrying vessel under the output hose. Begin pumping the handle steadily. The filter can produce up to 4 liters per minute.
- Direct Pumping: The filter can be used to pump directly into water bottles or hydration bladders using the provided adapters.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your Katadyn KFT Expedition Water Filter.
- Ceramic Element Cleaning: If the water output slows down, the ceramic filter element can be revived by scrubbing its surface with the provided cleaning scrubber under running water. This removes accumulated dirt and restores flow rate.
- Drying After Use: After each use, disassemble the filter components and allow them to dry thoroughly to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
- Lubrication: Apply the provided silicone lubricant to the O-rings and plunger periodically to maintain smooth operation and ensure a tight seal.
- Filter Element Thickness Check: Use the measuring device to check the thickness of the ceramic element. Replace the element when it wears down to the point where the measuring device fits over it, indicating it no longer meets filtration standards.

Troubleshooting
- Slow Flow Rate: This is typically caused by a clogged ceramic filter element. Refer to the "Maintenance and Cleaning" section to scrub the element.
- No Water Flow: Ensure all hose connections are tight and the inlet hose is fully submerged in water. Check for any air leaks in the system.
- Water Leakage: Check all O-rings for proper seating and lubrication. Ensure all threaded connections are tightened securely.
- Filter Damage from Freezing: If the filter element is wet and exposed to freezing temperatures, it may crack and become ineffective. Always ensure the filter is thoroughly dried before storing in freezing conditions.
