5. Operating Instructions

5.1 LED Indicators

The front panel of the DGS-1016D features LED indicators that provide real-time status information:

  • Power LED: Illuminates green when the switch is powered on.
  • Link/Act LED (per port):
    • Solid Green: Indicates a valid network connection.
    • Flashing Green: Indicates network activity (data transmission/reception).
  • 1000M / 10/100M LED (per port):
    • Solid Green: Indicates a 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) connection.
    • Off: Indicates a 10/100 Mbps connection.

5.2 DIP Switch Functions

The DGS-1016D includes a DIP switch on the front panel to enable or disable advanced features:

  • Flow Control: When enabled, this feature helps prevent packet loss in congested networks by temporarily pausing data transmission from devices that are sending data too quickly for the receiving device to process.
  • Port Isolation: When enabled, this feature isolates traffic between individual ports, preventing direct communication between them while still allowing communication with the uplink port. This can enhance security and mitigate broadcast storms.
  • Storm Control: When enabled, this feature monitors incoming broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast traffic and discards packets that exceed a predefined threshold, preventing network performance degradation due to excessive traffic.

Refer to the markings next to the DIP switch for the ON/OFF positions for each function.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your DGS-1016D switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and obstructions.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the switch within the specified temperature and humidity ranges (refer to the Specifications section). Avoid placing the switch in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high humidity.
  • Power Supply: Use only the power adapter supplied with the switch. Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded and protected from power surges.
  • Cable Management: Keep network cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bends to prevent signal degradation.

7. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with the DGS-1016D switch.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power LED indicationPower cord not connected or power outlet faulty.Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Test the outlet with another device.
No Link/Act LED for a connected deviceIncorrect cable, faulty cable, or device not powered on/configured.Verify the Ethernet cable is correctly connected at both ends. Try a different cable. Ensure the connected device is powered on and its network adapter is functioning.
Slow network speedCable issue, device limitation, or network congestion.Ensure you are using Gigabit-capable cables (Cat5e or higher). Check the 1000M LED to confirm Gigabit connection. Verify connected devices support Gigabit speeds. Consider enabling Flow Control via the DIP switch.
Network instability or frequent disconnectionsBroadcast storms or network loops.Ensure there are no network loops. Consider enabling Storm Control or Port Isolation via the DIP switch to mitigate excessive traffic.
