Leviton PR180-1LW
Leviton PR180-1LW Decora Occupancy Sensor Instruction Manual
Model: PR180-1LW | Brand: Leviton
Product Overview
The Leviton Decora PR180-1LW is a passive infrared wall switch occupancy sensor designed to automatically control lighting based on human presence. It detects infrared heat emitted by people to determine occupancy, turning lights ON when a room is entered and OFF when it is vacated. This sensor is suitable for incandescent and halogen lighting loads up to 500W (400VA).

Key Features:
- Passive Infrared Technology: Detects human presence by sensing infrared heat.
- Wide Coverage: 180-degree field of view with up to 400 square feet of coverage.
- Ambient Light Override: Prevents lights from turning on when sufficient natural light is present.
- Manual Override: Allows the sensor to function as a standard ON/OFF switch.
- Adjustable Delay: Customizable OFF time interval from 15 seconds to 15 minutes.
- Wiring Compatibility: Supports both single-pole and 3-way wiring configurations.
- Load Rating: Rated for up to 500 watts (400 volt-amps) for incandescent/halogen bulbs.
Installation and Setup
Important Safety Information: Before beginning installation, ensure power is turned OFF at the circuit breaker or fuse box to avoid electrical shock. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician if you are unsure about the process.
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the switch you are replacing and turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and unscrew the old switch from the electrical box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting their connections.
- Wire the Sensor: Connect the wires to the PR180-1LW sensor according to the wiring diagram provided in the product packaging. This sensor supports both single-pole and 3-way wiring. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Mount the Sensor: Gently push the wired sensor into the electrical box and secure it with the provided screws.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach the Decora wall plate (included) over the sensor.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.
- Test Operation: Test the sensor's functionality as described in the "Operating Instructions" section.
Note on Electrical Box Size: The PR180-1LW sensor is larger than a standard switch. In some older or smaller electrical boxes, fitting the sensor may be challenging. Ensure adequate space is available or consider using a deeper electrical box if necessary.
Operating Instructions
The PR180-1LW sensor features a manual override switch and adjustable settings for optimal performance.
Manual Override Switch:
- OFF: Manually turns the lights off, overriding the sensor's automatic function.
- AUTO: Activates the occupancy sensing mode. Lights will turn ON when motion is detected and turn OFF after a set delay when no motion is detected.
- ON: Manually turns the lights on, overriding the sensor's automatic function.
Adjustable Settings:
The sensor includes small adjustment sliders, typically located on the side or front behind the wall plate, for fine-tuning its operation:
- Ambient Light Override: This setting prevents the lights from turning on automatically if there is already sufficient natural light in the room. Adjust this sensitivity to your preference.
- Delayed OFF Time Interval: This setting determines how long the lights remain ON after the last detected motion. The interval can be adjusted from 15 seconds to 15 minutes.
Note: For optimal performance, ensure the sensor's field of view is unobstructed and covers the desired area. Avoid placing the sensor near heat sources or in direct airflow from HVAC vents, as this can affect its detection accuracy.
Maintenance
The Leviton PR180-1LW occupancy sensor requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor lens and wall plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the surface or sensor components.
- Inspection: Occasionally check the sensor and wall plate for any signs of damage or loose connections.
Always ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before performing any cleaning or inspection that involves direct contact with the sensor's electrical components.
