Setup

1. Inserting Batteries

The Nikon Coolpix 4600 operates on AA-size batteries. Ensure you use fresh alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries for optimal performance.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Slide the battery compartment latch to open the cover.

3. Initial Power-On and Date/Time Setting

After inserting batteries and an SD card, turn on the camera for the first time.

  1. Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera.
  2. The LCD monitor will display the date and time setting screen. Use the multi-selector (directional pad) to navigate and adjust the date, time, and time zone.
  3. Press the OK button to confirm your settings.

Operating the Camera

1. Turning On/Off and Mode Dial

To turn the camera on or off, press the ON/OFF button. The mode dial on the top-right of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes.

  • Auto Mode (Green Camera Icon): For simple point-and-shoot operation. The camera automatically adjusts settings.

4. Reviewing Photos (Playback Mode)

To view your captured images, press the playback button (blue arrow icon) located below the multi-selector. Use the left and right arrows on the multi-selector to scroll through your photos.

5. Recording Videos

The Coolpix 4600 can record videos at 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second in MP4 format. To record a video:

  1. Turn the mode dial to the movie camera icon (if available, or select from Scene modes if applicable).
  2. Press the shutter button to start recording.
  3. Press the shutter button again to stop recording.
