Safety Information

WARNING: Blades are extremely sharp. Handle with extreme care to prevent injury.

  • Always keep blades retracted when not in use.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection, when handling or replacing blades.
  • Keep the knife and replacement blades out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not apply excessive force when cutting, as this can cause the blade to break or slip.
  • Always cut away from your body and hands.
  • Dispose of used blades safely in a designated blade disposal container. Do not discard in regular trash.
  • Ensure the blade is securely locked in position before making a cut.

  2. Blade Extension: To extend the blade, push the slide-lock mechanism forward until the desired blade length is exposed. Ensure the blade clicks into a locked position.
  3. Blade Retraction: To retract the blade, push the slide-lock mechanism backward until the blade is fully enclosed within the handle.

Operation

The OLFA SVR-1 is designed for precision cutting of various materials such as paper, cardboard, shrink wrap, caulking, foam board, and molding.

  1. Grip: Hold the knife firmly with a comfortable and secure grip.
  2. Blade Extension: Extend only the necessary amount of blade for the task. Minimizing blade exposure reduces flex and improves control.
  3. Cutting: Place the blade against the material to be cut. Apply steady, even pressure and draw the knife along the desired cutting line. Always cut on a stable, protected surface.
  4. Snap-Off Blade Segments: When the blade tip becomes dull, a new sharp edge can be exposed.
    • Retract the blade until only one segment is exposed.
    • Locate the built-in blade snapper at the end of the knife handle.
    • Insert the dull blade segment into the snapper slot.
    • Snap off the dull segment by bending it downwards. Dispose of the snapped-off segment safely.
    • Extend the blade to expose the new sharp segment.

Maintenance

  1. Cleaning: Wipe the stainless steel handle and blade channel with a dry cloth after use to remove any debris or moisture. The stainless steel construction is corrosion and chemical resistant.
  2. Blade Replacement: When all blade segments have been used, the entire blade needs to be replaced.
    • Ensure the blade is fully extended.
    • Carefully slide the blade out of the front of the knife.
    • Insert a new OLFA 9mm replacement blade into the blade channel, ensuring it slides smoothly and is correctly oriented.
    • Retract the blade fully to secure it.
  3. Storage: Store the knife with the blade fully retracted in a dry, safe place, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

Blade does not extend or retract smoothly:
Check for debris in the blade channel. Clean the channel with a dry cloth. Ensure the blade is correctly seated.
Blade feels dull or tears material:
Snap off the dull blade segment to expose a new sharp edge, or replace the entire blade if all segments are used.
Blade breaks during use:
This may indicate excessive force or an incorrect cutting angle. Ensure you are using appropriate pressure and technique for the material. Replace the blade immediately.
