4. Setup and First Use

4.1 Initial Cleaning

  1. Unpack all components and remove any packaging materials.
  2. Disassemble the espresso maker by unscrewing the upper chamber from the lower water chamber. Remove the filter basket.
  3. Wash all parts thoroughly with warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely.
  4. For the first use, brew 2-3 batches of espresso using only water (no coffee) to clean the internal components and remove any manufacturing residues. Discard this water.

4.2 Assembly

  1. Fill the lower water chamber with cold water up to the level of the safety valve. Do not exceed this level.
  2. Insert the filter basket into the lower water chamber.
  3. Fill the filter basket with finely ground espresso coffee. Do not tamp the coffee too firmly, as this can impede water flow. Level the coffee gently.
  4. Screw the upper chamber firmly onto the lower water chamber. Ensure a tight seal to prevent leaks during brewing.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Brewing Espresso

  1. Place the assembled espresso maker on a suitable heat source (gas, electric, ceramic, or induction hob).
  2. Use a medium heat setting. High heat can burn the coffee and damage the espresso maker.
  3. Water in the lower chamber will heat up, creating steam pressure that forces hot water through the ground coffee in the filter basket.
  4. The brewed espresso will rise into the upper chamber.
  5. Once the upper chamber is full and you hear a gurgling sound, remove the espresso maker from the heat source immediately.
  6. Serve the fresh espresso into cups.

5.2 Tips for Best Results

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  1. Allow the espresso maker to cool completely after use.
  2. Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower water chamber.
  3. Discard used coffee grounds from the filter basket. Rinse the filter basket.
  4. Wash all parts with warm water. Avoid harsh detergents, which can leave residues that affect coffee taste.
  5. Rinse thoroughly and dry all components completely before reassembling or storing. This prevents water spots and mineral buildup.
  6. The WMF Kult Espresso Maker is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is recommended to preserve the finish and extend the lifespan of the seals.
