It provides exceptional sonic quality and allows up to four stereo mixes with individual balancing, ensuring optimal monitoring for multiple users.

Key Features

  • Professional, multi-purpose headphones amplifier system for stage and studio applications.
  • Highest sonic quality with virtually all types of headphones (>8 Ohms) even at maximum volume.
  • Four independent high-power amplifier sections provide up to four stereo mixes with individual balancing.
  • Stereo auxiliary input for each channel allows you to mix in any instrument or sound source.
  • One front and two rear 1/4" TRS output connectors on each channel.

Setup

Proper setup ensures optimal performance and longevity of your HA4700. Follow these steps for initial installation and connection.

  1. Power Connection: Connect the supplied AC power cable to the power inlet on the rear panel and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch on the front panel is in the OFF position before connecting.
  2. Main Audio Input: Connect your main audio source (e.g., mixing console, audio interface) to the MAIN INPUTs on the rear panel using either XLR or 1/4" TRS cables. These inputs feed the main signal to all four headphone channels.
  3. Main Audio Output (Optional): If you need to pass the main audio signal through to another device, connect cables from the MAIN OUTPUTs on the rear panel to the inputs of the next device.
  4. Headphone Connections: Connect headphones to the 1/4" TRS PHONES OUT jacks. Each channel has one front-panel output and two rear-panel outputs, allowing for flexible monitoring setups.
  5. Auxiliary Inputs (Per Channel): For individual channel mixing, connect an auxiliary audio source (e.g., click track, instrument output) to the AUX IN 1/4" TRS jack on the front panel of the desired channel.

Operating Instructions

This section details the functions of the controls and how to operate your HA4700 for various monitoring scenarios.

Main Section Controls

  • INPUT LEVEL (dB) Meters: Displays the input level of the main stereo signal. Adjust your source device to avoid clipping (red LEDs).
  • MASTER LEVEL: Controls the overall input level sent to all four headphone channels.
  • OUTPUT LEVEL (dB) Meters: Displays the output level of the main stereo signal.
  • POWER Switch: Turns the unit ON or OFF.

Individual Channel Controls (Channels 1-4)

  • MUTE Button: Mutes the main stereo signal for the respective channel.
  • MONO/STEREO Switch: Toggles between mono and stereo monitoring for the main signal. In mono, both left and right signals are summed.
  • BASS Control: Adjusts the low-frequency content of the headphone mix for that channel.
  • TREBLE Control: Adjusts the high-frequency content of the headphone mix for that channel.
  • AUX IN Jack: 1/4" TRS input for an additional stereo signal to be mixed into the channel's headphone output.
  • BALANCE Control: When an auxiliary input is connected, this knob balances the mix between the main stereo signal and the auxiliary input signal.
  • OUTPUT LEVEL Control: Adjusts the overall volume for the headphones connected to this specific channel.
  • PHONES OUT Jacks: 1/4" TRS outputs for connecting headphones.

To operate, first power on the unit. Adjust the MASTER LEVEL to a suitable input level. For each individual channel, connect headphones and any desired auxiliary input. Use the MUTE, MONO/STEREO, BASS, and TREBLE controls to tailor the sound. The BALANCE control allows you to blend the main mix with the auxiliary input. Finally, adjust the OUTPUT LEVEL for comfortable listening.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Behringer HA4700, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the unit from power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
  • Environment: Operate and store the unit in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections for security and wear. Loose or damaged cables can affect performance.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the unit does not power on, check the fuse located near the AC power inlet on the rear panel. Replace with a fuse of the exact same type and rating as specified on the unit. Refer to the specifications section for fuse details.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HA4700, consult the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the unit and a working power outlet.
    • Check the power switch position.
    • Inspect the fuse on the rear panel and replace if blown (refer to Maintenance section).
  • No Sound from Headphones:
    • Verify that headphones are properly plugged into the PHONES OUT jacks.
    • Check the OUTPUT LEVEL control for the specific channel; ensure it is turned up.
    • Ensure the MASTER LEVEL control is turned up.
    • Check the INPUT LEVEL meters; if no signal is present, verify the main audio source and connections to the MAIN INPUTs.
    • If using AUX IN, ensure the BALANCE control is not fully turned towards the main input if no main signal is present, or vice-versa.
    • Ensure the MUTE button for the channel is not engaged.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the input level from your source device if the INPUT LEVEL meters are consistently in the red.
    • Reduce the MASTER LEVEL or individual channel OUTPUT LEVEL.
    • Check headphone impedance; ensure it is compatible (typically >8 Ohms).
  • Hum or Noise:
    • Ensure all audio cables are properly shielded and in good condition.
    • Check for ground loops by ensuring all equipment is connected to the same power circuit or using a ground lift adapter (use with caution).
    • Keep audio cables away from power cables.
