Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub. The MOMO 2401 hub is designed to facilitate the installation of an aftermarket MOMO steering wheel onto compatible General Motors (GM) vehicles.
The hub is constructed from durable aluminum, ensuring a secure connection between your vehicle's steering column and the steering wheel.
Compatibility
The MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub is designed to fit most domestically built General Motors (GM) vehicles manufactured between 1969 and 1995. For precise fitment verification, it is recommended to contact MOMO directly or consult a qualified automotive technician.
Note: This hub is intended for passenger car applications.
Setup and Installation
Proper installation of the MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub is critical for safety and performance. If you are not confident in your ability to perform this installation, seek assistance from a professional mechanic.
Required Tools (Not Included):
- Steering wheel puller
- Socket wrench set
- Torque wrench
- Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
- Wire cutters/strippers (if applicable for horn wiring)
- Grinding tool or file (potentially required for certain vehicle models)
Installation Steps:
- Disconnect Battery: Before beginning, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent accidental airbag deployment (if applicable) and electrical shorts.
- Remove Original Steering Wheel:
- Carefully remove any horn buttons, airbag modules, or trim pieces covering the steering wheel retaining nut.
- Disconnect any electrical connectors for the horn or airbag.
- Using a socket wrench, remove the large retaining nut securing the steering wheel to the steering column shaft.
- Utilize a steering wheel puller to safely remove the original steering wheel from the splined shaft. Do not use excessive force, as this can damage the steering column.
- Prepare Steering Column:
- Inspect the steering column shaft for any debris or damage.
- For certain GM models (e.g., 1995 Corvette, 2002 Camaro): It may be necessary to remove the airbag clockspring and its associated wiring if the original steering wheel had an airbag. Additionally, some steering column shrouds may have internal plastic strengthening ribs that interfere with the hub's base. These ribs may need to be trimmed or ground down to allow the hub to rotate freely and seat properly.
- Install MOMO 2401 Hub:
- Slide the MOMO 2401 hub onto the steering column shaft, aligning the splines. Ensure it seats fully and flush against the column.
- Secure the hub with the original retaining nut. Torque the nut to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
- Install Aftermarket Steering Wheel:
- Align your MOMO aftermarket steering wheel with the bolt pattern on the MOMO 2401 hub.
- Secure the steering wheel to the hub using the provided bolts (typically with the steering wheel kit). Ensure all bolts are tightened evenly and securely.
- Connect the horn wiring according to the instructions provided with your aftermarket steering wheel.
- Reconnect Battery and Test: Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal. Test the horn and ensure the steering wheel operates smoothly without any binding or unusual noises.

Operating
The MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub is a passive component designed to securely mount an aftermarket steering wheel. Once installed, its operation is integrated with the steering wheel it supports. Ensure the steering wheel is always securely fastened to the hub before driving.
Maintenance
The MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the hub and its mounting bolts for tightness. Over time, vibrations can cause fasteners to loosen. Ensure all connections remain secure to maintain safe vehicle operation.
- Cleaning: Clean the hub with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the aluminum finish.
- Inspection: Regularly check for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. If any damage is observed, replace the hub immediately.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Hub does not seat flush on steering column. | Interference from steering column shroud ribs or incorrect spline alignment. | Ensure splines are correctly aligned. Inspect steering column shroud for plastic ribs that may require trimming or grinding for proper clearance. |
| Steering wheel feels loose after installation. | Retaining nut not sufficiently tightened or hub not fully seated. | Re-check the torque of the steering column retaining nut and the bolts securing the steering wheel to the hub. Ensure the hub is fully seated on the shaft. |
| Horn does not function. | Incorrect horn wiring connection or faulty horn button. | Verify all horn wiring connections are secure and correctly installed according to the aftermarket steering wheel's instructions. Test the horn button. |
