Product Overview

The Dynabrade 56106 is a 5-inch (127 mm) diameter vinyl-faced disc pad designed for use with non-vacuum random orbital sanders. It features a 5/16"-24 male thread for mounting. Constructed from a 3/8" (10 mm) thick medium density premium urethane material, this pad is engineered for smooth performance and extended durability. Its exclusive single-piece hub design minimizes vibration, contributing to consistent, swirl-free finishes when paired with Dynabrade random orbital sanders.

  • Premium Sanding Pad: Vinyl-faced, 5" (127 mm) diameter, for non-vacuum random orbital sanders.
  • Optimum Performance: Custom built and precision engineered for consistent, swirl-free finishes.
  • Smooth Performance: 3/8" (10 mm) thick medium density urethane with a single-piece hub design to reduce vibration.

Setup

Before installation, ensure your random orbital sander is disconnected from its power source (air or electric) to prevent accidental activation.

  1. Inspect the Pad: Examine the Dynabrade 56106 disc pad for any signs of damage or wear. Do not use a damaged pad.
  2. Prepare the Sander: Ensure the sander's spindle or mounting surface is clean and free of debris.
  3. Attach the Pad: Align the 5/16"-24 male thread of the disc pad with the corresponding female thread on your non-vacuum random orbital sander. Carefully thread the pad onto the sander's spindle.
  4. Secure the Pad: Hand-tighten the disc pad firmly. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the threads or the pad.
  5. Verify Attachment: Once attached, gently tug on the pad to ensure it is securely fastened and does not wobble.

Operating Instructions

The Dynabrade 56106 disc pad is designed for sanding applications. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, and respiratory protection, as indicated by the product warnings.

  • Abrasive Attachment: Attach the appropriate 5-inch diameter sanding abrasive (e.g., PSA/adhesive-backed discs) to the vinyl face of the pad. Ensure the abrasive is centered and adheres completely to the pad surface.
  • Speed Limit: Do not exceed the maximum operating speed of 12,000 RPM for this disc pad. Operating above this speed can lead to pad failure and injury.
  • Sanding Technique:
    • Apply light, even pressure to the sander.
    • Move the sander in a consistent, overlapping pattern across the workpiece.
    • Avoid tilting the sander, which can cause uneven sanding and premature wear of the pad and abrasive.
  • Material Compatibility: This pad is suitable for various materials requiring surface preparation and finishing, including wood, metal, and composites, depending on the abrasive used.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Dynabrade 56106 disc pad.

  • Cleaning: After each use, remove any dust or debris from the vinyl face of the pad. A soft brush or compressed air (with appropriate safety precautions) can be used. Avoid using harsh chemicals that may degrade the vinyl or urethane material.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the pad for signs of wear, cracks, tears, or deformation. Pay close attention to the edges and the mounting thread.
  • Storage: Store the disc pad in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it under heavy objects that could deform its shape.
  • Replacement: Replace the disc pad if it shows significant wear, damage, or if it no longer provides a consistent, swirl-free finish. A worn pad can negatively impact sanding quality and potentially damage the workpiece.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Uneven sanding or swirl marksWorn or damaged disc pad; incorrect abrasive grit; uneven pressure during sanding.Inspect and replace disc pad if worn. Use appropriate abrasive grit for the task. Apply even pressure and maintain consistent movement.
Excessive vibrationDisc pad not securely attached; damaged disc pad; unbalanced abrasive.Ensure pad is tightly secured. Inspect pad for damage and replace if necessary. Check if abrasive is properly centered and not damaged.
Abrasive not adhering wellVinyl face is dirty or worn; incorrect abrasive type (e.g., hook & loop on vinyl face).Clean the vinyl face. Ensure you are using PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) backed abrasives, as this pad is vinyl-faced, not hook & loop.
