2. Safety Information
WARNING: EYE AND RESPIRATORY IRRITANT. BONDS SKIN IN SECONDS.
- Skin Bonding: Cyanoacrylate adhesives bond skin instantly. In case of skin contact, do not pull apart. Soak in warm soapy water or use a solvent like acetone (nail polish remover). Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
- Eye Contact: In case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention. Do not force eyelids open.
- Inhalation: Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid breathing vapors. If symptoms of respiratory irritation occur, move to fresh air.
- Ingestion: Do not ingest. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
- Flammability: Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames.
- Children: Keep out of reach of children.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Wear appropriate gloves (e.g., nitrile) and eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) during handling and application.
Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete safety information. The SDS can be obtained from the Loctite website or by contacting customer support.

3. Setup and Preparation
- Work Area: Ensure the work area is clean, dry, and well-ventilated. Protect surfaces with a disposable covering.
- Surface Preparation: For optimal bonding, surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and other contaminants. Lightly abrading smooth surfaces may improve adhesion.
- Temperature: For best results, apply adhesive at room temperature (68°F to 77°F / 20°C to 25°C).
- Personal Protection: Put on appropriate gloves and eye protection before handling the adhesive.
- Opening the Bottle: Twist the cap to break the seal. Do not squeeze the bottle while opening to prevent accidental discharge.
4. Operating Instructions (Application)
- Apply Adhesive: Apply a small amount of Loctite 495 to one of the surfaces to be bonded. A single drop is sufficient for approximately one square inch. Avoid excessive application, as this can slow down curing and reduce bond strength.
- Assemble Parts: Immediately bring the parts together with light contact pressure. Hold them firmly in place for a few seconds. The adhesive typically sets within seconds, depending on the substrate and environmental conditions.
- Curing Time: Full cure strength is usually achieved within 24 hours. Avoid disturbing the bonded parts during this period.
- Gap Filling: Loctite 495 is designed to bond parts with close-fitting tolerances, up to 0.004 inches (0.1 mm) gaps. For larger gaps, consider a different adhesive type.
- Cleanup: Wipe away any excess adhesive immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel. Cured adhesive can be removed with acetone, though this may damage some plastics or finishes.
Note: For specific material compatibility or challenging applications, it is recommended to test the adhesive on a small, inconspicuous area first.
5. Maintenance and Storage
- After Use: Immediately replace the cap tightly after each use to prevent the adhesive from curing in the nozzle.
- Storage Conditions: Store the adhesive in a cool, dry place, ideally between 46°F and 82°F (8°C and 28°C). Refrigeration at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) can extend shelf life, but allow the product to reach room temperature before use.
- Avoid Contamination: Do not return unused adhesive to the original container, as this can contaminate the remaining product.
- Disposal: Dispose of empty containers and cured adhesive according to local regulations.
