1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the HoMedics DWS-220 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station with Atomic Clock. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your device. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure proper functionality and to maximize the product's lifespan.
2. Product Overview
The HoMedics DWS-220 is designed to provide accurate indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity readings, along with an atomic clock for precise timekeeping and a weather forecast function. The system consists of a main display unit and a wireless remote sensor.

This image shows the HoMedics DWS-220 main unit. The display indicates an outdoor temperature of 32.5°F, indoor temperature of 70.5°F with 60% humidity, and the current time as 12:38:59 PM on December 19th. The weather forecast icon shows a sunny condition with clouds.
Main Display Unit Features:
- Large LCD display for easy readability.
- Displays indoor temperature and humidity.
- Displays outdoor temperature and humidity (from remote sensor).
- Atomic clock with automatic time synchronization.
- Date and day of the week display.
- Weather forecast icons (sunny, cloudy, rainy).
- Min/Max temperature and humidity records.
- Alarm function.
- Control buttons: CH, SET, MIN/MAX, ALARM.
Wireless Remote Sensor:
The remote sensor transmits outdoor temperature and humidity data to the main unit. It is designed for outdoor placement and should be protected from direct sunlight and precipitation for accurate readings.
3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
- Main Unit: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit. Insert 2 AA batteries (included) according to the polarity markings (+/-). Close the cover securely.
- Remote Sensor: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote sensor. Insert 2 AA batteries (included) according to the polarity markings (+/-). Close the cover securely.
Note: Always replace all batteries at the same time. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.
3.2 Sensor Placement
For optimal performance, place the remote sensor in a location that is:
- Within 100 feet (30 meters) of the main unit.
- Protected from direct sunlight and rain.
- Away from large metal objects, electrical appliances, and other sources of interference.
- At a height that allows for accurate ambient temperature readings, typically 5-6 feet above the ground.
3.3 Initial Synchronization
After installing batteries in both units, the main unit will automatically search for the remote sensor. This process may take a few minutes. Once connected, the outdoor temperature and humidity will appear on the main unit's display. If the outdoor readings do not appear, press the 'CH' button on the main unit to manually search for the sensor.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Atomic Clock Synchronization
The DWS-220 features an atomic clock that automatically synchronizes with the WWVB radio signal for precise timekeeping. This process typically occurs overnight. Ensure the main unit is placed in an area where it can receive a clear signal, away from electronic interference.
4.2 Manual Time and Date Setting
If the atomic clock signal is unavailable or you wish to set the time manually:
- Press and hold the 'SET' button for 3 seconds to enter time setting mode.
- Use the 'CH' or 'MIN/MAX' buttons to adjust the flashing value (e.g., hour, minute, year, month, day).
- Press 'SET' to confirm each setting and move to the next.
- Press 'SET' repeatedly until you exit the setting mode.
4.3 Setting the Alarm
- Press the 'ALARM' button once to display the alarm time.
- Press and hold the 'ALARM' button for 3 seconds to enter alarm setting mode.
- Use the 'CH' or 'MIN/MAX' buttons to adjust the hour and minute.
- Press 'ALARM' to confirm and exit.
- To activate/deactivate the alarm, press the 'ALARM' button once when the current time is displayed. An alarm icon will appear/disappear on the display.
4.4 Viewing Min/Max Records
Press the 'MIN/MAX' button repeatedly to cycle through the maximum and minimum recorded indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity values. The display will show 'MAX' or 'MIN' to indicate the current view. To clear the records, press and hold the 'MIN/MAX' button for 3 seconds while viewing the records.
4.5 Weather Forecast
The weather station analyzes atmospheric pressure changes to predict weather conditions for the next 12-24 hours. The forecast is indicated by icons such as sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, or rainy. These icons represent a forecast and may not always reflect current conditions.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator appears on the display, it is time to replace the batteries in the respective unit (main unit or remote sensor). Follow the battery installation steps in Section 3.1. Always replace all batteries at once to ensure consistent power.
5.2 Cleaning
Wipe the display and casing of both units with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the device. Ensure no moisture enters the battery compartments or other openings.
6. Troubleshooting
- No outdoor temperature/humidity reading:
- Check if batteries are correctly installed in the remote sensor.
- Ensure the remote sensor is within range of the main unit.
- Press the 'CH' button on the main unit to manually search for the sensor.
- Relocate the sensor or main unit to reduce interference.
- Incorrect time:
- Ensure the main unit is in a location with good atomic clock signal reception.
- Manually set the time as described in Section 4.2.
- Display is dim or blank:
- Replace the batteries in the main unit.
