Product Overview

The KRUPS FMF4-14 10-Cup Coffeemaker combines distinctive design with a powerful, fully programmable brewing system. This 1100-watt appliance features a double-walled stainless-steel construction for efficient brewing. It includes a bright blue, illuminated LED control panel for easy readability and a programmable timer for setting daily start times. Designed for convenience, it has a stainless-steel soft-eject filter holder and a magnified water-level indicator. A built-in water filtration system helps reduce chlorine and lime scale, complemented by an electronic de-scaling indicator. For safety, the 60-ounce water reservoir has a detection feature that shuts off the unit if empty.

The coffeemaker comes with a 10-cup vacuum thermal stainless-steel carafe designed to maintain flavor and temperature. It features a no-drip spout and an ergonomic handle. An aroma switch allows for maximizing flavor when brewing one to three cups. A pause-and-serve function enables pouring a cup mid-brew, and an audible signal indicates brewing completion. An adjustable-time heating plate keeps coffee warm for up to five hours, with a default of two hours.

Key Features:

Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffeemaker and its accessories. Place the unit on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the thermal carafe, lid, and filter holder with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth.
  3. Water Filtration System: Install the water filter according to the instructions provided with the filter. This system helps reduce chlorine and lime scale.
  4. Filling the Water Reservoir: Open the lid of the water reservoir. Fill the thermal carafe with fresh, cold water up to the 10-cup mark. Pour the water into the reservoir. The magnified water-level indicator on the side will show the current water level. Ensure not to overfill.
  5. First Brew Cycle (Cleaning): For the first use, it is recommended to run two full brewing cycles with only water to clean the internal components. Do not add coffee grounds for these cycles. Discard the water after each cycle.
  6. Setting the Clock: Plug in the coffeemaker. The LED display will illuminate. Use the "h/min" buttons to set the current time.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee:

  1. Prepare Filter: Open the filter holder compartment. Place a standard basket-style paper filter or the reusable filter (if included) into the soft-eject filter holder.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one tablespoon of coffee per cup, but adjust to your taste. Close the filter holder compartment securely.
  3. Add Water: Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the desired number of cups using the thermal carafe as a measure.
  4. Place Carafe: Ensure the thermal carafe with its lid is properly placed on the heating plate.
  5. Start Brewing: Press the "O/I" button to start the brewing process. The indicator light will illuminate. An audible signal will sound when brewing is complete.

Programmable Timer:

To program the coffeemaker to start brewing at a specific time:

  1. Press the "prog" button. The display will show "PM" or "AM" and the time will flash.
  2. Use the "h/min" buttons to set your desired brew time.
  3. Press "prog" again to confirm. The coffeemaker will now start brewing automatically at the set time.

1-3 Cup Setting (Aroma Switch):

For brewing smaller quantities (1 to 3 cups) with optimized flavor, press the "1-3" button. This setting adjusts the brewing process to extract maximum flavor from fewer grounds.

Pause-and-Serve Function:

The coffeemaker is equipped with a pause-and-serve feature, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe during the brewing cycle to pour a cup. The flow of coffee will stop automatically. Return the carafe to its position within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.

Keep Warm Function:

After brewing, the adjustable-time heating plate will keep the coffee warm. The default keep-warm time is two hours, but it can be adjusted up to five hours. Refer to the full manual for specific adjustment instructions.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffeemaker.

Daily Cleaning:

Descaling:

Over time, mineral deposits (lime scale) can build up in your coffeemaker, affecting performance and coffee taste. The KRUPS FMF4-14 features an electronic de-scaling indicator that will alert you when descaling is necessary.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution: Mix white vinegar and water in equal parts, or use a commercial descaling agent designed for coffeemakers, following the product's instructions.
  2. Pour the solution into the water reservoir.
  3. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
  4. Run a full brewing cycle with the descaling solution.
  5. After the cycle, discard the solution.
  6. Run two to three full cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse the coffeemaker thoroughly.

Water Filter Maintenance:

The built-in water filtration system requires periodic replacement of the filter cartridge. Refer to the filter packaging or the full product manual for recommended replacement intervals, typically every two months or after a certain number of brews, depending on water hardness.
