3. Setup and Model Placement

  1. Open the Case: Unclasp the storage box and open it fully to reveal the interior foam inserts.
  2. Identify Slots: Observe the foam inserts. There is typically one larger slot designed for a locomotive and six smaller, uniform slots for coaches.
  3. Place Models: Carefully place your N Scale locomotive into its designated slot. Ensure it sits snugly within the foam. Repeat this process for each of your six N Scale coaches.
  4. Secure Closure: Once all models are placed, gently close the lid of the storage box and secure the clasp(s) to prevent accidental opening.

4. Operating (Storage Guidelines)

  • Gentle Handling: Always handle the storage box with care, especially when it contains models. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to harsh impacts.
  • Vertical or Horizontal Storage: The box can be stored either horizontally or vertically. Ensure the clasp is securely fastened in either orientation.
  • Environmental Conditions: Store the box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity to protect both the case and the models inside.
  • Avoid Overfilling: Do not attempt to force additional models or items into the slots, as this can damage the models or the foam inserts.

5. Maintenance

  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the case with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the finish.
  • Interior Foam Care: The foam inserts are designed for long-term use. If dust accumulates, gently use a soft brush or a low-power vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to clean them. Do not wash the foam inserts.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the case and foam for any signs of wear or damage. Replace the case if its protective integrity is compromised.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Models Not Fitting: Ensure your models are N Scale. The slots are precisely cut for standard N Scale dimensions. If a model is oversized or has custom modifications, it may not fit. Do not force models into slots.
  • Case Not Closing Properly: Check that all models are correctly seated in their respective foam slots and that no part of a model is protruding. Ensure the foam inserts are correctly aligned within the case.
  • Foam Wear: Over time, foam may show signs of compression or wear. While designed for durability, extreme use or improper storage can accelerate this. Replacement foam inserts may be available from Kato or authorized dealers.
