Mighty Mule 50 Ft. Driveway Vehicle Sensor (FM138)

Instruction Manual

Introduction

The Mighty Mule 50 ft. Driveway Vehicle Sensor (model FM138) is designed to automatically open your gate when a vehicle drives past its magnetic field. This allows for hands-free exit from your property without the need for a remote control or keypad. It is compatible with Mighty Mule and GTO Access Systems gate openers and is suitable for both residential and agricultural applications.

This wired sensor detects metal mass in motion and features a 12 ft. magnetic sensing range. The unit comes with a 50-foot cable for installation.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation of the FM138 vehicle sensor is crucial for optimal performance. The sensor is designed for direct burial and should be placed parallel to your driveway.

  1. Placement: Position the sensor between 3 to 50 feet away from the gate. For optimal gate opening time, consider the length of your driveway and typical vehicle speed. A longer distance allows the gate more time to open before the vehicle reaches it.
  2. Trenching: Dig a trench along the driveway where the sensor will be placed. The sensor should be buried no more than 12 inches deep. It is recommended to use conduit for the cable to protect it from environmental factors and potential damage.
  3. Sensor Orientation: Ensure the sensor is laid flat and parallel to the driveway within the trench.
  4. Wiring: Connect the sensor's cable directly to the appropriate terminals in your Mighty Mule Automatic Gate Opener control box. Refer to your specific gate opener's manual for detailed wiring diagrams. Ensure all connections are secure and waterproof.
  5. Testing: After installation, test the sensor by driving a vehicle past its magnetic field to confirm the gate opens automatically.

Operating Instructions

The FM138 vehicle sensor operates by detecting changes in its magnetic field caused by the presence of a large metal object, such as a vehicle. When a vehicle enters the 12-foot magnetic field, the sensor sends a signal to the gate opener control box, initiating the gate opening sequence.

Maintenance

The Mighty Mule FM138 sensor is designed for durability and minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can ensure its longevity and reliable operation:
