1. Introduction

5. Setup

5.1 Unpacking and Inspection

  1. Carefully remove the miter saw and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Inspect the tool for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Do not operate a damaged tool.
  3. Verify that all components listed in Section 3 are present.

5.2 Mounting the Saw

For stable and safe operation, it is recommended to mount the miter saw to a workbench or a miter saw stand.

  1. Position the saw on a stable, level surface.
  2. Locate the mounting holes in the saw's base.
  3. Use appropriate bolts, washers, and nuts (not included) to securely fasten the saw to the workbench or stand. Ensure the saw cannot move during operation.

5.3 Blade Installation (if not pre-installed)

WARNING: Always disconnect the saw from the power source before installing or changing the blade.

  1. Lift the lower blade guard and press the shaft lock button to secure the arbor.
  2. Using the provided socket wrench, loosen and remove the arbor bolt and outer flange.
  3. Place the new 10-inch carbide-tipped blade onto the arbor, ensuring the teeth are pointing downwards towards the front of the saw.
  4. Reinstall the outer flange and arbor bolt. Tighten the arbor bolt securely with the socket wrench while holding the shaft lock button.
  5. Release the shaft lock button and check that the blade rotates freely.

5.4 Dust Bag Attachment

Attach the dust bag to the dust port located at the rear of the blade guard assembly. This helps collect sawdust and maintain a cleaner work environment.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  • To turn the saw ON, depress the trigger switch on the handle.
  • To turn the saw OFF, release the trigger switch.

6.2 Adjusting Miter Angle

The miter saw allows for angle cuts from 0° to 45° left and 0° to 52° right.

  1. Loosen the miter angle lock handle located at the front of the saw base.
  2. Rotate the turntable to the desired miter angle, aligning the indicator with the scale. Positive stops are provided at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, and 45° (left or right).
  3. Tighten the miter angle lock handle firmly to secure the turntable in position.

6.3 Adjusting Bevel Angle

The saw can bevel cut up to 45° to the left.

  1. Loosen the bevel lock lever, typically located at the rear of the saw.
  2. Tilt the saw head to the desired bevel angle, aligning the indicator with the bevel scale.
  3. Tighten the bevel lock lever securely.

6.4 Using the Fluorescent Light

The LS1040F is equipped with a flexible fluorescent light to illuminate the cutting area.

  • Locate the light switch, usually near the light fixture.
  • Turn the light ON to improve visibility during cutting, especially in dimly lit conditions.
  • Adjust the flexible arm to direct the light precisely onto your workpiece.

6.5 Cutting Procedure

CAUTION: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection and hearing protection.

  1. Prepare Workpiece: Place the workpiece firmly against the fence and the miter table. Use clamps if necessary to prevent movement during the cut.
  2. Position Saw: Ensure the blade is clear of the workpiece before starting the motor.
  3. Start Cut: Depress the trigger switch and allow the blade to reach full speed.
  4. Lower Blade: Slowly and smoothly lower the saw head through the workpiece. Do not force the cut.
  5. Complete Cut: Once the cut is complete, release the trigger switch and allow the blade to stop completely before raising the saw head.
  6. Remove Workpiece: Only remove the workpiece after the blade has come to a complete stop and the saw head is fully raised.

7. Maintenance

WARNING: Disconnect the saw from the power source before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

7.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean sawdust and debris from the saw, especially around the blade guard, motor vents, and miter table. Use a brush or compressed air.
  • Empty the dust bag frequently to maintain efficient dust collection.
  • Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as they may damage plastic parts.

7.2 Blade Care and Replacement

  • Keep the saw blade sharp and clean. A dull blade can cause kickback and reduce cutting efficiency.
  • Replace worn or damaged blades immediately. Refer to Section 5.3 for blade installation instructions.
  • Always use 10-inch blades designed for miter saws and appropriate for the material being cut.

7.3 Carbon Brushes
