Setup
1. Initial Inspection
Upon unboxing, carefully inspect the guitar for any visible damage. Ensure all components, such as tuners, bridge, and knobs, are securely in place. The guitar may require minor adjustments due to environmental changes during shipping.
2. Tuning
The Omen Extreme-7 is a 7-string guitar. Standard tuning for a 7-string guitar is B-E-A-D-G-B-E (low to high). Use a reliable electronic tuner to accurately tune each string. Stretch new strings gently after initial tuning to help them settle and hold pitch better.
3. Action Adjustment
The "action" refers to the height of the strings above the fretboard. Optimal action provides comfortable playability without excessive buzzing. Adjustments can be made at the bridge saddles to raise or lower individual string height. For neck relief adjustments (truss rod), it is recommended to consult a qualified guitar technician to avoid potential damage.
4. Intonation
Intonation ensures that notes played at the 12th fret are in tune with the open string. This is adjusted by moving the bridge saddles forward or backward. Tune the open string, then check the note at the 12th fret. If the 12th fret note is sharp, move the saddle back; if it's flat, move it forward. Retune and recheck until accurate.
Operating Instructions
1. Connecting to an Amplifier
Connect one end of a standard 1/4" instrument cable to the output jack located on the lower bout of the guitar. Connect the other end to the input jack of your guitar amplifier or audio interface.
2. Controls Overview
- Volume Knob: Controls the overall output level of the guitar. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.
- Tone Knob: Adjusts the treble response. Turning clockwise brightens the tone, while turning counter-clockwise mellows it.
- 3-Way Toggle Switch: Selects the active pickup(s).
- Up Position: Neck pickup only (warmer, fuller tone).
- Middle Position: Both neck and bridge pickups (balanced tone).
- Down Position: Bridge pickup only (brighter, more aggressive tone).
Experiment with these controls to find your desired sound. The Schecter Diamond Plus pickups are designed to offer a wide range of tonal possibilities.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
- Body: Wipe the body with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove fingerprints and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a guitar-specific polish.
- Fretboard: Periodically clean the rosewood fretboard with a specialized fretboard cleaner and conditioner to prevent drying and cracking.
- Strings: Wipe strings with a clean cloth after playing to remove oils and extend their life.
2. String Replacement
Strings should be replaced regularly, depending on playing frequency and personal preference. Old strings can lose their tone and intonation. Replace one string at a time to maintain neck tension. Use appropriate gauge strings for a 7-string guitar (e.g., light gauge alloy steel).
3. Storage
Store your guitar in a stable environment, away from extreme temperature changes or humidity fluctuations. A guitar case provides the best protection against physical damage and environmental factors.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| String Buzz | Low action, uneven frets, neck relief issues, worn strings. | Adjust bridge saddle height, check neck relief (professional recommended), replace strings. |
| Poor Intonation | Incorrect saddle position, old strings. | Adjust bridge saddles (see Setup section), replace strings. |
| No Sound/Weak Output | Faulty cable, dead amplifier, guitar volume knob off, pickup selector switch issue, faulty jack. | Check cable and amplifier, ensure guitar volume is up, test pickup selector. If problem persists, consult a technician. |
| Tuning Instability | New strings not stretched, worn tuners, nut friction, environmental changes. | Stretch new strings, lubricate nut slots, ensure stable storage conditions. |
For complex issues or repairs, it is always recommended to seek assistance from a qualified guitar technician.
