Operating Instructions
The RHKS1 features a three-stage sharpening system. Always start with the coarsest stage and progress to finer stages for optimal results.
General Sharpening Tips:
- Always hold the knife firmly by the handle.
- Pull the knife through the slots with a consistent, moderate pressure. Do not push down excessively.
- Maintain a consistent speed when pulling the knife through the slots.
- Always pull the knife towards you, from the heel to the tip. Never push the knife away from you.
- For best results, alternate between the left and right slots of each stage to ensure an even edge.
Sharpening Straight-Edge Knives:
- Turn the sharpener On using the On/Off switch.
- Stage 1 (Coarse Grinding): Insert the knife blade into the left slot of Stage 1. Pull the knife towards you, from the heel to the tip, through the slot. Repeat this 3-5 times. Then, insert the knife into the right slot of Stage 1 and repeat the process 3-5 times. This stage is for dull or damaged blades.
- Stage 2 (Medium Sharpening): Move to Stage 2. Insert the knife blade into the left slot and pull it towards you 3-5 times. Repeat with the right slot 3-5 times. This stage refines the edge.
- Stage 3 (Fine Honing): For a razor-sharp finish, move to Stage 3. Insert the knife blade into the left slot and pull it towards you 3-5 times. Repeat with the right slot 3-5 times. This stage polishes the blade.
- After sharpening, turn the sharpener Off and carefully wipe the blade with a damp cloth to remove any metal filings.
Sharpening Serrated-Edge Knives:
Serrated knives should only be sharpened using Stage 3 (Fine Honing) to maintain their unique edge. Do not use Stage 1 or 2 for serrated blades.
- Turn the sharpener On using the On/Off switch.
- Stage 3 (Fine Honing): Carefully insert the serrated knife blade into the left slot of Stage 3. Pull the knife towards you, from the heel to the tip, through the slot. Repeat this 5-10 times, applying light pressure. Then, insert the knife into the right slot of Stage 3 and repeat the process 5-10 times.
- After sharpening, turn the sharpener Off and carefully wipe the blade with a damp cloth.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your knife sharpener.
- Always unplug the sharpener from the power outlet before cleaning.
- Do not immerse the sharpener in water or any other liquid.
- Wipe the exterior of the sharpener with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Periodically, use a soft brush or a dry cloth to gently clean any metal dust or debris from the sharpening slots.
- Store the sharpener in a dry place when not in use.
